How many different alpina bmw's have there been, what are they called, and what was done to them over the standard cars?

They're not very imaginative with their model nomenclature, are they? :?

erm, everything, lol.

I'm just interested in alpinas and their history. I know they have made some insane cars such as the b10 bi turbo and B12 (late model ones are my favourite cars of all time), but it seems they made some fairly tame ones with just cosmetic changes too.

The cosmetic ones I'm not really interested in, but would like to know what engines/power output the 'proper' alpinas had.... Also what people consider as 'the best' alpina(s)....

I can tell you the roadsterS is an awesome car the looks the power the back end would step at 3k in 2nd with michelin pilot cups on a red hot summers day in spain without being on full throttle.

E36 B8 4.6 V8 is a serious weapon also, as are the oldskool B7 turbos fitted to the E28's and E24's back in the day.

an E30 B6 shifts too with 261 brake to play with.

Alpina started out in the early 60's by the man himself Burkard Bovespien. Back then the 1500 neu klass saloon was a bit tame with 80bhp. He made a twin webber conversion for his own one which boosted it to 90bhp and really brought the engine to life. He went to bmw with it to for endorsement, which he got and the icing on the cake was when his car was featured in a major motor mag. The rest is history!

He then was swamped with too much work for himself to do on his own so he took on 8 blokes and a loan from bmw to really kick start it. Then racing improves the breed so alpina went racing, ended up after 10 or so years as the factory works team and many, many titles to their names. He then took the company in a different direction in the late 70's by deciding to make complete re done performance bmw's and stopped racing. So in 78 the first 3 offical models appeared the B7 turbos in the 5 and 6 series and the E21 B6 with a 2.8 M30 in it. They also aquired all the TUV gumf to become a car manufacturer in their own right. Then the 80's really saw them take off with succesful models such as the C2 2.7 and E34 B10's. Bovespien has deliberately kept production numbers down to keep the resale values high and keep them exclusive, bespoke, rare sought after cars!

There's alot more to it than this but thats roughly how it happened from how i read it

So i understand it Sytners built 160 RHD C2 2.7's of all body types and including chromebumper models. Which again seems to many seeing as they only 400 or so for the rest of the world! It would seem then that the UK was a massive market for them if this was true

Did you know sytners built the first ever C2 2.7 before the main factory buchloe!
