I took out a 316 engine and put in a 325 one.
My question is... what the hell is the black can thingy that appears to be left over and useless?
Its on the passenger inner wing area, has some foamy stuff in the bottom and a hose coming out of it, think it has one going in too.... there wasnt anywhere for the hose that comes out to go on the new engine...
what is it? do I need it?
316-325 black can thingy...

It's the carbon canister for filtering the fuel vapours.
It's part of the emission control system, usually only fitted to cat equipped cars.

well, now I've found this topic again.. I could swear I put it in technical help
It has two hoses going into it, the fuel line and the fuel breather I think, and three coming out... two of these are used, and the other is spare... I take it I can leave it spare?
Thats how I had it for the very brief period that the first 2.5 was in there and it seemed to work, lets hope it does with the new one..
