Spotted this on ebay. Can it really be as easy as plugging one end into pre out socket and other into Mp3 player?

Its says Aux input. , not pre out.
And yes thats what the AUX IN is for.

If the car is fitted with an AUX-in socket yes.
If the radio has changer control capabilities, you would use something along the lines of this:

No probs, Obviously check your headunit for changer controls and socket first and buy a converter that is suitable for your brand.

Thanks mate, its a Alpine TDM 7548R H/U and Alpine CHM-S601 cD changer if that helps.
