WATER!!! Behind the drivers side speaker (LHD)

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

So that'll be why my central locking doesn't work!! I bought a new central locking box thing (that sits in behind the speaker) but it still doesn't work. The other box (1/4 of the size) is also fecked. Is that also to do with the central locking? I suppose I'd new one of these too? Could the plugs themselves also be damaged?

That aside, where's the water coming from?

not sure if hte fuse box is int he same place in the engine bay as in the 325 but if it is then it could be coming from behind/underneath there. herad of quite a few being leaking from there and making the footwell wet.

hope that helps

The other small box is the interior light delay module.

Probably corrosion on the central locking controller connector that's stopping your new one from working.

Scratch away the green/dull crud on the block contacts with a small screwdriver.

The water is supposed to be in there, but it's only supposed to be a short visit!

It comes down a thick black tube from the sunroof or scuttle (?) below the two controllers. It's supposed to vent away through two small slits under the car. These get blocked, the water accumulates and rises above the boxes and eventually overflows into the cab.

Wicked, thanks for the wise words.

Re the build up of water, there was no "pool" as such, but there was water dripping off the speaker! I did see the black tube thing too.

I'll try scratching the green crud (which was there!!) off the connectors and see where that gets me.

Thanks.

If there's water dripping of the speaker, than you've probably got a rust hole somewhere I'm afraid, or if your lucky, the problem might be with a blocked or split sunroof drain tube.
Open up the roof, with the car facing slightly downhill and pour water into the sunroof apeture surround and see where it goes.

I have the same problem but on my drivers side (RHD). I have water travelling over my control box and it's from the drain tube. If I waggle the tube I can hear the top end of it about two thirds of the way up the A-pillar. Apparently you need to take off the sun visor, drop the headlining a bit in that corner, and slide the A-pillar trim upwards (I think).....

....tell you what, do a search for 'A-pillar' and you should find my recent post, the full explanation of how to get the trim off is there.

Dan

PS I still have to do this job myself, along with god knows how many others!
