My friend lives in quite a rough area in London and is now thinking about buying an e46 m3 as they have become affordable for him. However, he is reluctant to as they are still seen as an attractive car and it will be parked on his driveway i.e. not a garage.
I know that the chassis is slightly different from any other e46 3, but wouldn't it be easy to remove its unique exterior M3 elements?
1. Debadge of course and blank badge in rubbing strips.
2. Will the standard front wings off the original 3 series fit to eliminate the need of the grill.
3. Anyway the quad exhaust could be converted to a standard 330 exhaust say?

Why would you want to do that??
You'd be much better off buying a garage

As far as i am aware the M3 has a wider track (width) on the suspension, so although the wings etc would go on, the wheels wouldn't fit under the arches, and i would guess you would need a custom exhaust to mate the M3 system to a normal back box.
Another consideration is that if you 'plained' it up it would be very expensive to do the conversion and extremely difficult to sell on when the time comes.
I would suggest a far better idea would be to get a 330ci and get it supercharged, that way you would get M3-ish performance with sleeper looks, done in a way that would be easy to reverse if you wanted to, and much easier to sell.
Or do like Ian332sport and build a serious sleeper E30

For fucking hells sake. Why would he want to spend all that money ruining a car??
Let me get this right....
He is willing to spend all that money making an m3 look like a normal coupe? Its very silly to think that it wont be a target for thiefs/vandals etc if its just a standard model.
I was not sure if i should post on this thread as its really sad, but i couldnt help it....

Somewhere outside the M25 would be a good start.

Tell him to buy normal E46 and hae the car charged then. He can have M3 performance in a normal E46

Or buy a 330 and do an M3 engine swap ! Seems the more logical way to do it to me!
Only the rear wheel offsets are different on the M3 to a normal Coupe. Fronts are the same, it would need spacers on the back to fit "normal" E46 3 series wheels.

or could take the M3 badges off and put a 320-323-325 badge on the back! Seriously be a waste to buy one and convert it to a normal car as everyone has said. 330ci is a good all rounder and they have a nice look about em.
