Just purchased excellent red 94 318i cab with only 40k. Want to add the OBC. There seems to be 2 types, the 13 button (From the 320/325) or the 6 button. I've read the article on this site on how to fit it. Has any one actually put the 13 button one in a 318 or fitted the 6 button one. Cheers

the 13 button one is from a 320/325 etc I think and has all the bits like MPG, range etc
the 6 button was fitted to 316/318 lux's (or as an option) and just has time, date and a outdoor temperature thingy.

I'm fairly sure either OBC will fit in any E30; but you do have to have the correct 'code-plug' in the 13 button to suit the engine in your car - this is the white thing in the back
Here's two I photographed earlier - the 4-6 is for a erm late 325, and the 5-5 is for a 5-series IIRC.

Fitting to 318i requires code plug 4-2 65.81-1385 937.9 for it to mesure the MPG and range properly. Everything else will work without a problem.

Many thanks, Can I buy this 'code plug' from BMW & fit it, or do I need to wait until I find an OBC with the correct one?

Only available from BMW dealer (since the 318i didnt have the 13 button unit factory fitted)

I imagine if BMW are geared-up to sell you the 'light-bar' for 20 GBP (that usually goes POP in the 13-button), they'll be falling over themselves to sell you something else to keep their profit margins high
