should i de-chrome, part de-chrome or leave it chromed
i'm restarting my E30 320 project and yesterday i took of the chrome kidney's and did them black
Image

i found a E30 today in a breaker's ..(i raped it of a few bit's N bob's).. with black side strip's and bumper's which i could get for mine i'd also take of the chrome arche's ... but i think i'd leave the chrome round the window's and gutter's, thing to is that when i bought this car (last october) i said i'd leave it looking as it is 8O to keep it more as a period/retro car
but the more i look at other E30's the more i want mine lowered on 15" BBS rim's and looking a little more menecing

the body is solid under the arche's, but the front's will need painting ... or maybe i'd be as well hunting for 2 clean red wing's?

some time's i think once it's lowered and the right alloy's fitted to it then the arches might look better :? .. has anyone painted there chrome bumper's? or am i better changing them to newer black one's ... maybe paint them red?

Completley de-chrome it mate and colour code the bumpers/wing mirrors.

Chrome works on some cars but IMHO not red un's.

I think a full dechrome would be good, I'd keep the mirrors and bumpers black though... maybe these will help you:

dechromed windows:

chrome arch covers removed:

nice work "ALYMAN".. winkeye don't suppose you could do one with the bumper's & rubbing strip's in black, arches off and leave the chrome round the door's & window's?
i'm hope'n to lower it -40mm and fit wheel's with a polished rim so the chrome on the door's will blend in

if its as solid as u say, then just take the arches off. there are not to many solid chromes left on the roads these days and very rare to see on in good nick when you do come across them. personally i would just lower her sit it on some nice rims and maybe change that black front lip. I like both models of e30 and can see where your coming from in wanting to dechrome her, but there a dieing bread mate so i see keep the chrome and enjoy it man! :D

chrome arches are just about the most tasteless tacky crap you can possibly glue to a car. right up there with lexus style lights on a non lexus imho.

the rad car in this thread looks pretty clean and tidy, i'd probably just take the arches off and leave the rest of the chrome, put the grille back to chrome, drop it on a nice set of wheels (no bigger than 16s) and enjoy it in al it's retro cool glory 8)
cheers,

harry

OK i'll start by taking the chrome arches off, the body work is solid ... just that someone painted behind the front's with silver hammerite, i'll see how i get on with a bottle of thinner's and some 1200 grit wet N dry
then i'll lower it 40mm also .... i need to fit in time for it's mot at some point (once ive fitted it's new P/S rack and rear top mount's)
hope to have it oot N aboot for easter at the latest, unless i sell my E39 soon :D

Old skool E30's shouldn't try to be modernised. It will just look like a pre-facelift trying to look facelift.

Chrome is only acceptable when it's fatcory chrome.

Stop looking for ways to molest it! It looks great as is!
