2.7 Vs the Hot Hatches
Moderator: martauto
you would outperform almost nothing, All modern cars have a variable intake so with 170 output you loose them unless you have space and no traffic lights Try to to drive a 4 cyl. bmw vanos engine.We have the look but not the power

I don't agree it will beat a 330ci. I've sat in one and there very responsive. Plus they ain't as heavy as you think, there very agile from what I've experienced!E30_BO1 wrote:Well saying you've got a decent 2.7 outputting 200bhp, then:
Will not outperform a later type R
Would beat 172/182 if it has a LSD too
ST170 would beat
330ci would be beaten due to the lighter weight.

i have a friend with a 2003 civic type R and he cant quite keep up on the motorway,
clio i dont know but i havent had one beat me yet and ive had a go with a couple of em,
going on how i do against my mates e46M3 id guess i could deal with a e46 330 below 100mph. they weigh over 1500kg
these old cars deffinately aint as slow as alot of you would like to think.
if you compare the stats (power to weight etc) on paper there is no way a 215+hp e30 could not beat all of the above cars.
330= 151hp/ton
typeR= 155.12hp/ton
clio 182=161.74/ton
e30 with 215hp =179 hp/ton
i stand to be corrected

Well the reason I asked about this little thought is because I have had a run in with all of the above cars
The Clio 182 was behind me on the M1 and each and every time the traffic cleared we both went for it and I dropped it every time and above 100 I really started to pull away. The Focus ST 170 was easy bait and I had no trouble losing it.
The Type R (preface lift) was again on the M1 and he seemed in a rush so I kindly let him pass but was interested to see how I would do and to my suprise it was in my way all the way upto twice the limit at which point he pulled in and I passed him.. and then slowed down a bit it's a bit loud in a Cab at those speeds.
The 330ci was an Auto Cab Just like mine and up along hill in Barton the cutting some might know it ?
We were playing and in all honesty we were side by side until about 130 I think he could have carried on a bit more but he didn't..
Not scientific I know, but realistic and genuine fun all the same..
The 2.7 is much more of a car than the 2.5 well mine is anyhow..
And with regards to the E30 M3 well I have the joy to drive one aswell and in certain situations the 2.7 would murder it (all the torque) but then again in other areas the M3 is far superior..

i took my mate out for a "whitenuckle" ride in the 2.7 yesterday and he was shocked. he drives an m3 with tvs and all that shite in the boot and hes now tempted to buy an e30. his words "i should have spent 5 grand one one of those rather than 30k on mine!" and even though we werent he said " that FEELS so much faster than mine". i was genuinely surprised he had anything good to say about it cos he usually just slags my car off saying ots an old banger etc etc... scumbag.
and with two up i still managed to leave my bro in his e36 in the distance

One of my mates has a pre-facelift civic type R, We had a little run up against each other and he was most depressed that he wasn't getting away like he thought he would. He now wants to buy my car
CTR's are all or nothing, Gutless at low revs which is where my 325 was pulling away from him, as he hit V-tech he clawed back. My car is fairly std too.
I'd say if the 2.7 driver knew how to pedal a car properly, he/she could knock a smile off of a CTR drivers face imo.

I couldn't see a good 2.7 'murduring' a 215 M3.Foomanchu wrote:And with regards to the E30 M3 well I have the joy to drive one aswell and in certain situations the 2.7 would murder it (all the torque) but then again in other areas the M3 is far superior..
I know the 2.7 has alot of torque but when the M3 hits 4k revs it really does come alive.
Anyone got a 200hp 2.7 and a 215 M3 ???

In that situations it would pull away slowly but not murder itoakey wrote:i think he means in "certain situations" ie. if youve got a m3 and a 2.7 side by side at 40mph in 4th gear (for example) the 2.7 should pull better than the m3.

A 325i Sport is about the same speed as a 106 Gti, tryd and tested. Thats good going cause 106gti's are rapid. my old one woulda murdered my standard sport, it used to sit right behind scooby wrx's up until 140 then they slowly pull away.
You can't really put a e30 in the same class as a hot hatch, totaly diffrent cars and totaly diffrent ways of driving them.

Well as I have a 215 bhp UK M3 to compare I know what they both feel like and "murder" might be pushing it but it is most certainly quicker in many situations except above 3.5k the M3 does really move but the 2.7 pulls like a TGV from the second the the pedal is pressed. but the 2.7 starts to hit a wall at about 130 ish where the M3 will keep pushing until a little more.. I promise you the Clio was trying I know they are quick little cars but there not unbeatable... I really thought the CTR would of had the legs on a Clio ?
I wasn't trying to compare the class of cars just the available performance...
