Well... it goes without saying that you've already had a frontal labotomy... no one in their right mind would do what you've done without having a few 'bits' missing up top...

Why all the hate over some kid talking on a forum?

I know it's a tight knit community but why feed the flames?

To be honest, there has been far worse said on other threads with not even a quarter of this hate thrown back.

It's only a wind-up if you get wound up. Otherwise it's an ampty reverberating voice, floting through a hollow thread.

I do think some E30 cars are overpriced and I don't think heavily modded cars are 'unique' in the way that tatoos make you unique.

You end up looking like everyone else.

we are stupid for spending loads of money on these cars and they are highly priced compared to other cars of that age, but its a for a good reason- they are great fookin cars!
the more people are willing to pay for them the more money they will be worth, which is a great thing for us. personally i think you could spend 10k on a brand new pugeot and end up with a far worse car in every way.
peace!
everyone keep spending loadsa money on the e30s a help em live forever!

I didn't say your stupid, just that some E30's described as mint are overpriced.

People advertise all types of cars as Mint, I have yet to go see a car that is more than 4 years old that has been described as mint, and actually is. Most people see cars as tools, and therefore can't pick the defaults that an enthusiast might be able to.

Pointless topic

Thinking about it, this stems from the fact that E30's are not old enough to be proper classics yet.

People pay millions for cars that are 30+ years old.

So whereas a 60's or 70's car has proper classic status and price tags to match, E30's are a semi-premium sports saloon from the 80's.

Or too quote andyboy, 'Some germans see the E30 as their Ford Cortina.'

Maybe it's because the E30 is too new to be 'classic' and too old to be worth much.

We're right in the middle of something, a delicately balanced phenomenon waiting to happen, on the cusp of becoming something truly great...

Maybe if you take it upon yourself to 'cull' the scrap, we'll get there sooner :) Sadly it's gonna be a long time before E30s get to proper classic status otherwise - there's just too many of them! You don't see Cortinas every day, but there's 4 E30s in the carpark outside...

True.

Get rid of the scrap and the modded nastiness and we can all be proud with no argument.

Modded cars hurt the classic status too as they make the cars seem like playthings of the teen crew and thus just readily available street junk that ANYONE can stick crap onto. Why would anyone muller them if they were considered rare and classic?

Bet nobody mods them when there's 1,500 left and not 15,000.

I can see the eBay listing now:
FOR SALE: One BMW E30 electric window switch, circa 1989. Totally original, no chrome or bllue neon. Start price - £600.

In the end, only the pure will survive. Nobody looks back at those Testarossa kitted pop -up headlight 911's and says 'Wow that's so cool!'

Though I've got a sneaking suspicion they were factory for the yanks!

If I had the cash i'd buy a tidy e30 and get me dad (a professional sprayer) to do a complete panels off engine out respray, nice little engine rebuild, basically like that guy in holland is doing, but to standard spec. (well, mtec spec :D )

Would also buy a half decent 318i for me to learn on! changing a wheel is about as far as I've gone on an e30!

I agree... a membership charge, that comes with the added bonus of a sticker or tax disc holder 'should' remedy the problem of free-loading knobs using the Zone.

Even though I no longer have an E30, I'd be up for it.

Have to disagree. The community sprirt and ethos is what makes this zone great.

It wont stop the nobs. Unfortuntely, nobs have jobs, nobs get paid money and nobs could therefore acess a "premium zone" Problem still exists.

As far as this nob is concerned with his gay "boi" handle, we all obviously enjoy exercising our superiority as if this guy really p*ssed us off, we could chose to ingnore him. Let the feckers come here and get flamed, if that's what floats their boats!

If money was involved for access the zone, surely people who generously give us tech articles would rightly want payment for the articles inclusion? It all starts beoming business like and instead of being members, we become customers who would require a level of service; "I pay good money to be here... la la la" No more community, queue out of town faceless retail park.

Yes we do get a few people joining just to sell their turds. Why see that as a problem? If they have the good sense to advertise to a captive market, we as buyers should be capitalising on our own market place. People are bringing what we want to us. We're the fecking experts here!

There's no point crying about these traders ripping us off, a fool and his money... etc etc Use some common sense before you part with your hard earned and this place can be safe as houses without hiding behind a membership fee. A fee would be better aimed at people wanting to sell here.

This fee will also discourage genine enthusiasts. Who buys a car without test driving or giving is a good look over? Unless the fee gave access to a premium area. I don't think the zone has the potential to offer something on those lines, plus you start segregating and fragmenting members. Elitism ensues.

To answer the orginal question , and I'm surprised some of the brighter bods on here haven't done this already;

You cannot compare e30 to e36 to e46

Why?

Without the e30, you have no e36, without the e36 you have no e46. You're comparing designs from a peroid of at least 20 years, with diferent remits, guidelines and regulations to follow.

The e36 is an evolution of the e30, it is a development, it owes it's heritage and status to the e30. Likewise with the e46. Technologiy changes, techniques and materials change, it's a learning curve. This is like comparing a dual core pc to a zx spectrum. Both had monitors, processors and keyboards.

Comparing a e30 to a mk3 escort, or an e36 to a Hyundai Coupe, or an e46 to a mk4 or 5 astra would be fairer.

As for pricing, it's already been said, the sell for what people are willing to pay for them, supply and demand. Just because some mindless tw*t decides to spit his dummy because his benefits wont buy a sport, doesn't mean they are overpriced. They are desirable, they turn heads, they have heritage. They are f*cking awesome to drive and the people who own them seem to be cut from a similar cloth.

Why spend £8k on a sport when you could have put a deposit down on a house has as much relevance to the statements in this thread. I'd pay it because I don't want a f*cking house or an e36. I like the e30 and its chartacterisics, that's why I bought one. Otherwise, following the logic here, we may as well have all saved our money and ourselves from being ripped off and bought kia prides or daewoo nexias!!!

People buy these lumps of metal as they have a choice to do so. Same as morons driving Chelsea Tractors around London. They are exercising their right to chose.
