just looking at the best place to install the lamda sensor on my IS, the system is the standrad 4-2-1.

I was thinking in the start of the "2" section just after the flange joining the manifold to the second "2" section

any help would be great :D

cheers matt

Just after the manifold at the start of the downpipe is the best place a birdie tells me.

Wideband or Narrowband?

The narrow band should be about where the trans begins, but the wideband can be close as it´s got heater control

Also to note, the narrowband will read diffrently depending on tempratures in the exhaust.
With great challenges comes great engineering.

I usually fit ordinary 0 - 1 volt 4 wire lambda sensors (for LPG systems) on the inner downpipe, facing inwards, just tucked up out of danger in a space that's fairly obvious when you look up underneath the car.
You need a M18 X 1.5 nut to shape and cut down to weld onto the pipe.

I use them from M50s, M52s, M54s - whatever is around. Even used one with "Ford" written on it once!

I was looking at using a wideband to set it up with and then posibly swop to narrow once its set up or more than lightly just map against a MAP senor, throttle postision and rpm

You can't do any mapping with just a MAP sensor/throttle angle or rpm. You need a WBO2 to tell you what your changes are doing to the mixture. Trying to use a NB sensor is a bit of a dead end too IMO.

We installed my WB about 6 inches from the turbo, no issues so far, thought it was fooked but turned out to be the mixture was beyond it's range and it's all working good now!

Can't rave on enough about WB's, one of the best toys I've ever bought, like I couldn't live without it now :D

I think I paid about $200 for my LC-1 which is not a lot and it's lasted 18months so far.

ditto, WBO2 is the best car toy ever. i got the lambda bung welded where the factory ones are - that's where the two pipes become one.
