I've got to get 2 Crash Helmets as we are planning on some Track Days this year. Is there a minimum specifications to get ? I'm aware my head is probably very important and the more you spend the better protection etc.

What does anyone else use ?

Thanks
Kevin

You cant go wrong with Arai, the best mney can buy. I use a GP5.

I tried loads of lids and the arai range was by far my favorite for comfort.

Not that cheap tho.

Iv never seen any one check helmets at trackdays, its not like a race meeting where the officials ckeck for scratchs, dates, etc.

Whatever fits your head best. No point getting a £500 arai when a £150 sparco is a better shape. Demon tweeks have tons of helmets to try on. GPR have a fair amount but pissed me about something chronic when i was looking for mine.

as above

dont be talked into bike helmets as they dont offer the same protection, and theres talk that the TDO may have to start checking at somepoint for insurance purposes

SNELL approved is the one too look for

No need to pay that much money though to be honest. Just don't buy second hand

i bought a cheap bike one with the relevant bs marks etc) for about £80 a few years back. i would always always go full face, if not just for the extra protection but to stop the horrible gurning expressions the trackday photographers like to catch you making :D

if i was looking now i'd gt one properly designed for in car use as they have much more protection for the back of the head / top of the neck. bike helmets tend to have a high back as youre leant over and looking up rather than the upright head forward car type position.
cheers,

harry

i don't think helemets have to be approved to use on day, well apart the british standard mark etc, but i believe it dosn't have to be a motorsport body approved 1, but if you going to do hill climbs i would invest in a snell approved ones, id agree with wht others are saying about stillo, heard gd things bout them, sebastien loeb using them, so you can't go wrong with them! :D
