Last night I had a dream that my e30 tourer had a v12 in it from the 750i (I think thats the one).....

Is it possible? Has anyone done it? Anyone got pics?

I'd love to do it eventually.

8O mmmmmmm that looks tasty.

How much work is needed to do the swap then? I'm guessing moving bulkheads and allsorts?

Though actually looking at that picture it looks quite snug but not too overcrowded in there....

Dont think my budget would stretch to an m5 v8 lol, and if it did I'd want it in an m5....

What v8 is that in the other one? rover? chevy? it looks familiar...

sounds like my old mazda v6, to change the water pump you had to lift the engine, changing plugs on the rear (transverse mounted) bank you had to remove the entire intake thing... was a nightmare... but, with a v12 in an e30 I'd be happy to do a bit of extra work to keep it going....

Any idea of performance figures from the v12?

i dnt tthink there very high powered tbh

but then chucking it in an e30 will prob change the delivery being
so much lighter than a 7 series :D

i could be wrong tho its not something id like to take on tbh lol

must be a small fortune in making it fit and sit right
then theres finding that 6speed

Well, it started out as the engine conversion and has now turned into a full nut and bolt resto job, the body is currently going back to bare metal. Must update the thread soon :o:

thats alot of work money and weight for 300bhp i gotta say plus i dont think finding a manual would be easy. i can think of a number of engines that would be much more suited. only problem is they arent bmw. does look very cool tho. shame you guys dont get real v8's over there. i wanna see a gen3 e30. or perhaps an sr20det or 2jzgte maybe a 13bt then youd be talkin serious power and minimal weight.

Has anyone fitted a 4.0 M60 V8 into an e30 yet? apart from that blue M3 we saw at Ace cafe once.

Would be the conversion of choice for me!

If the 6sp manual for the V12 is so rare (only some 850i's and all Csi's had them right?) why not use something easy to source like a T5 or a 6spd supra box, use the bell housing off the auto box (cut off if not seperate) with an adapter plate bolted/welded on. There's a thread somewhere on the locost forums about doing this to fit a suitable gearbox to an AUDI 5pot, sounded like a cheap and easy solution. Might be worth a read if the 'box is what's putting people off.

the v12 6 speed box is unique to the engine not sure if others will work,as i had to buy one for mine and could not find another suitable one

its not a heavy engine, and torque is pretty good, lots of low down grunt

i've had the privelidge of driving the V12 / e30 in question and i havent driven much else thats quicker , and i've driven a lot of cars

it would absotoutly spank an e36 m3, it would make look like it was going in reverse

plus, its about the novelty of having that engine there

For sure it wouldn't be a straight swap, you'd need a flywheel with the right dia and ring gear tooth pitch for the starter (M60/62?) and a clutch that fits it but with a center spline pattern to suit the chosen box (hybrid monster?).

The idea is to keep the part of the box unique to the engine (basically the bellhousing and bolt pattern) and adapt it so you can fix another box/chopped up bellhousing to it.

You need access to tools and skills (milling machine and heavy duty ally welding) but it sounds like it could still be cheaper than the rare box :? Just an idea I've been considering as I've heard of a cheap but dead 750 locally

i didnt mean to offend i actually prefer the uk way of modifieing and buy mags like ppc and pbmw. just 3.5 ltr rover v8's and 4.0 ltr bmw's dont really cut it against 5.0ltr 5.7 and 6.0 ltr holden and ford motors. there are exceptions of course. even the japs make stronger v8's such as the lexus. all i was gettin at is in uk mags i have seen the 4.2 ltr variant of the rover v8 described as "an australian monster" here a 4.2 ltr is well small. anyway just be happy as we can hardly make use of them with our laws and you guys can put tank engines in rovers and supercharged monster truck engines on motorbikes. (totally not fair btw).

the average v8 you will find on aussie roads is at least a 5.0 ltr was all i was gettin at.

But the dispalcement is irrelevant....look at the Yanks......Huge V8's of 6-7-8Ltr....but no real power.......we'd expect 500Bhp+ minimum from these engines NA.

We have to make use the smaller dispalcment engines due to our fuel tax's.

When we buy a car here....
1, does it look good
2, Whats the MPG

1 gallon of petrol here cost's approx $9.80AUS, thats nearly $120AUS to fill the average UK saloon. ( £1 = $2.488AUS)
