I was looking at modding the interior plate inside the door mirrors but I don't think there's enough space behind it.
What have you done?

the last owner of my car (nice bloke) put them on mdf and screwed it into the doorcards (I wish he bloody hadn't almost negated the first comment!), seemed to work for him! However I think it looks cack, has ruined the door cards, and did I say looks cack.
mind you he did 'shape' the mdf and cover it in that sound deadening carpet stuff, he tried I suppose.
and its an option.

I'll be putting in new wiring anyway...
Hmm, I reckon I'll try for the mirror pods, mind you biggest problem now is to find a manufacturer who hasn't added silver plastic to their speaker grilles..

Why not use the proper E30 tweeter mounts?

bmw did make tweeters already incorporated into the mirror backings as an option.(thats why the wiring is there on some models)they do come up on ebay now and again.wouldnt be hard to remove the standard tweets and put in some good uns thus making any silly silver grilles redundant.

I was advised when fitting my M3 with a 4 speaker set up up front that for the best sound quality the tweeter needed to be as close to the mid as possible. I hid mine right up under the dashboard in the angled mounts supplied in the kit.

I'm going to do this and my new JBL tweeters have wireing soldered on to go into a crossover. How would I get the wires from the mirror pod down the door channel, through the rubber gaiter and into the footwell? Would a coathanger really work? Is there an 'proper' way like stripping the door card or something?eko wrote:I just fed some new speaker wire into the door from the x over under the dash!

You can buy almost ANYTHING from BMW - just get the part number.
Check out part 7 (part 18 on the pic) on this link:

nice, dont appear to be available through GSF under the interior category.
Any idea how much a dealership would charge for the bits?
Number 7 isn't listed in the list under the diagram also, so no idea what the part number is!
