Simon, you hero!
open diff drifting, you show that davenotouring what its all about!
as for the bint in the 4x4, I'd just tell her where to get off then go sit in my house. no loss if you have to walk 500yards to the car tomorrow, eh...
Auto's are the best in snow, cos you can slick the lever between d&r to "slip" ther rear wheels free of snow. my 735i was ace in the snow, apart from the £25 of fuel to 8 miles incident....

I thought you were all taught that at school and had to recite it in every assembly in the mornings... Well done kids.
Mind you, even us Hard nosed, hard b@stards from the North get a showing up from the bloody Norwegians.
they park by aiming the car at the kerb and letting it slide!
Last time I was in Oslo, there was a dude puttering about in a jag XJS (supercharged 4.2, much like chris's micra engine) with the traction control off

I've got hair now, and stylish with it too. Some would even mistake me for a southern softy at a quick glance. Solicitors on Monday, then a court appearance to get divorce sorted, so I need hair to look respectable and not like the violent wife beater as she's described me in her divorce paper response! The incriminating picture of me in fetching 'wife-beater' holding a can of Stella and scratching me arse didn't help matters. Well... she's got to try and make herself look like the injured party somehow to hide both the little boy living with her (to protect her from me of course) and the pregnancy that popped into bloom 4 weeks after I booted her out to live with afore-mentioned little boy. Anyway, I digress... for a change.Simon13 wrote:Giles you look harder with no hair, is this still the case?

"Heavy snow causes traffic problems" to quote BBC's website. Have I missed something, is a few inches that heavy?
Somebody with a degree in engineering please enlighten me how this applies to trains for example? Ok, cars I can understand, people not used to driving in snow, no winter tires, steep hills.... but trains? Give me a break, where I come from there's 4-5 months of snow every year and NEVER in my life have I heard of trains not running because of a snowfall. Either BBC have no other worthy news to report (something really important, like color of some celebrity's underwear, someone passing a fart on Big Brother, that type of thing) or someone, somewhere is just using the snow for slacking off.
I tell you what, I'd be very surprised if Clarkson doesn't mention this on one of the upcoming Top Gear's. I liked how they did the roadworks in a day instead of a week just to prove it can be done

What makes me giggle is the way 4x4 owners think their cayenne/disco/X5/Range is going to be be SUPERB in snow. Then they find out that with 3 tons of plastic roo-bars, autobox, all kinds of traction control and road tyres they may as well just fucking walk.

Woke up this morning and a god 3 inches of snow around my roads. Went to pick my mate up, got to the top of his private road and low and behold the road is blocked with a City Link Long Wheel base van.
So i skid to a hault the ABS pinging a lovely tune, get out and see whats up. Some kid who looked no older than 18 got out and said yeah mate it wont shift, everytime i move back it spins up and the front drags round and onto the kerb.
So i pinch a bit of rope (sorry more like string) and attatch it to the front of his van, and then onto my tow bar. Im running road tyres so i drop the pressures down so they have a nice flat spot on them and get back into the disco nearly stacking it, it was that icey.
Now my diff lock isnt working at the mo, the mechanism is stuck, so all i had was low range 4x4. Take up the slack, and start pulling slowley. Well that had no effect so gave it some beans!
So to react to your comment about 4x4 owners, some are actually pretty good in the snow, even when they arnt fully working. Oh and mines an auto too. But it does have a nice V8.

If i had A/T tyres or even mud tyres, it would be amazing.

I spent the drive to work (took the back roads of course) mostly on opposite lock.
Someone please tell me where there is proper snow still, cos I'm going to head there tonight!!
