e30 318is for drifting?
Moderator: martauto
Hi folks. Ive owned a 318is for a while but it needs some work to get it back on the road, mainly a respray etc. However i dont really have the money to do this and feel like its a waste for the car to sittin at the back of the house doing nothing. So im considering doing a diy spray job, stripping her out, buckets and a roll cage and just using her for track day fun and drift events. Can anyone confirm if the car will be much use for drifting? I dont want to spend much on it. Was thinking of just buying a LSD and not much else. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
for a drift car youl need 100% lock so weld diff is only way to go.
wouldnt a 325 be far better suited for drifting??

maybe it would mate. But as i said i just want to have a bit of fun with the 318is, idont want to have to spend much money so im not going out to buy a diff car. Even that said theres a few guys from the drit scene over here in ireland that tell me that the 318is is a much better car for drifting than the 325i!
Weld the diff, stiffen suspension, and strip it out, it'll be great.
People say, that you learn to drift alot better with a lower powered car, as you need more commitment into the corners and dont just relay on the power....
I'm hoping having plenty of power will make up for my lack of skill/commitment tho
