Taking BBS split rims apart RS 15inch

whats the best way anyone? As banging them with a hammer doesn't seem a good idea.

Also putting themback together best left to the pro's?

cutting the sealer with a sharp blade, then warming them up slightly seems a good idea to me

id start that way aswell.. they need a go with a heatgun really.. and when putting them back together. the best way is normally to put them back together dry and only seal the outer joints. most goos silicone should do the trick ! ive seen it done before a few times

Taking them apart is one thing, i wouldn't want to put them back together though mate. I think puuting split rims back together is one of those things best left to the pro's. Any mistake and you're seroiusly risking your health, so be careful if you do decide to put them back together yourself dude

i have some RS070's scattered around on the floor behind me... disassembly can take a while, once you have all the bolts out a rubber mallet can be very handy...

As far as assembly goes as long as everything is clean, you torque the bolts to spec (15lb/ft iirc) and seal them properly i cant see there being any problems - i am definitely no pro though, and i'm yet to actually assemble a single wheel yet

I have taken apart a few sets of rims and just using a heat gun and stanley knife is not always the best way.
I know it looks like you will bend the rim with a hammer, but this route has been fool proff for me, providing you follow these guidelines.

Get a plastic bucket, turn it upside down, put the rim, outer face ontop of the upturned bucket, and get a rubber mallet and gently hit the outer rim. Don't go crazy Si, as you could bend the rim, but it will drop off.

If you have troubles, i refurb split rims as a side business.

Putting the back together is the key. Preparation is the key.
Clean both mating surfaces with acetone and white spirit. Ensure they are dry and free from council dirt. Then dry mount the wheel. Then seal the joints with high modulus silicon(dunlop stuff).

The problems with split rims is you do not know whether they are properly sealed until the tyre is on.

One way you can have an idea is by sticking the wheel in a bathtub of water and see if the water passes through any tiny holes. Difficult to explain on the net....

Well the outer rims came off easy.

The fronts are 15x7 and have RS 070 on them are these 2 piece they seem it to me i think

The rears are 15x8 and have RS 071 on them are these 3 piece they look it to me.

So are they 2 different type of wheel they seem the same

what colour centres do peeps think? normal silver? colour coded 80's styleee (lachs in my case) or a nice bit of nogaro motorsport stuff?

gold bolts/chrome/normal?

black badges/chrome?

Also if i get the same outer lip as on the 8j and put them on the front will that make them 7.5? looks like it to me. Deep dish front and rear u know i'm say'in bredrin's

in my eyes, silver is silver so it doesnt matter.

Black centres would look good but then so would silver of some description.

Si mate, your motor will look wicked with these on. Id just go for silver centers and get the outerlips refurbed and polished back up,silver/chrome bolts and some nice new bbs centercaps ,chrome with black writing!
