Gearknobs

What fitment are the gearknobs on an e30? does anyone know the dimensions of how far the gearstick goes into the knob itself and how it manages to stay attached??

Its just a push fit all u need is a good tug 2 remove and fitting is the reverse also bmw sell pukka m sport knobs 4 approx £25

It stays on because there is a cut out at the top of the shaft into which fits a piece moulded into the gearnob. They friction fit together. To remove it, put it back into 4th and just pull straight up, being careful not to smash yourself in the face as you do it (trust me, its possible).

I've got one they didn't notice me yanking out of an E34 at a local scrappy. It's better than getting black stuff on my hand from the disintegrating original article, though only just.
