318iS Spark Plug Tightness and Pipe Replacement

How do,
Just about to service my 318is and was wondering how crucial is it to torque the plugs up the correct amount. Obviously i don't want to strip the threads but what are the consequences of them being a bit looser than recommended?

I also want to replace this hose.




How do I get to it? Do I need to take the intake maniflod off?

yes, you need to take the inlet manifold off. its a fairly long pipe, that has a metal pipe running through it. bit of pain in the 4rse to do, but nothing too demanding...

re: the spark plugs, i just wind them in until they're tight! you'll have to be very stupid or very strong to make chocolate of a BMW head...

This is the picture on the back of an NGK plug packet if thats any help. Sorry it's really dark :s



Basically the plugs need to be wound in until hand tight then: If the plug has a conical seat it needs to be turned another 5/16th of a turn, If it has a crush washer it needs to be turned 1/2 to 2/3rds of a turn.

I normally put a bit of threadlock on the threads before fitting, Special stuff called chemical metal...... Works a treat
