i dont know if this has been asked before as i am new here but i was wondering if there was any power difference between an 89 325is and just a standard 325. Also if there is any difference how is it achieved as they have the same engine. thanks

IS is the sport i would say.. has a close ratio box and an LSD, sports interior and rust hiding M-tech kit

No difference in power. BMW should have made the 325i Sport a 2.7.

that'll be the close ratio box and slipper diff making the difference there then

yea but the standard gearbox can hit 60 in 2nd, so after a little tuning to the engine surely its the better of the two gearboxes to use for a 0-60 sprint..well that's my theory anyway - I'm using the standard box.

advantage of sport box is 2nd and 3rd are closer to each other in terms of ratios... so theres no nasty gap....

what about the big whole between 2nd and 3rd. It drops u out of the power in the standard box, thats why they made the sport one. just change the 3.91LSD diff for a 3.64LSD and then u will have 60 in 2nd with a sport box, but the car will be slower

Hopefully you're talking in terms of standard engines, I'm sure I'll have enough low down grunt to keep this set-back to a minimumSimon13 wrote:what about the big whole between 2nd and 3rd. As for LSD I still have my 4.10lsd, no available funds (and none have actually been about long enough for me to see the post lol) to swap to either 3.91 or 3.64.

that will be bloody fast with a 4.10! is it a large case? i think the tortque wouls melt a small case diff. another good one is a 3.73LSD but find one

Yea it's a large case, the only other 4.10lsd I've seen was large case too - not sure if there was a small case one. A 3.73 would be ideal I reckon!

Mine will do 60 in second anyway...probably thanks to the chip as the rev limiter is set to 7000
Jimbob all that extra grunt will sort out the nasty gap I would imagine matey.

Yea a rev limit of 7000 would be nice
but I'm under the impression that it would be best to keep mine near 6500 because of the compression, one of the only things I haven't spoken to Ant about

Are you in the states by any chance? because 325 models vary very much across the pond.89 325is and just a standard 325
Don't think the US ever got a "sport" as such, can't remeber exactly what the is is, but i can find out. The standard 325 you talk about, is that an e? this stand for eta which is a low revving engine, designed to save fuel, not to drive fast. Think there is a big difference between a 325is and 325e.

If you get it mapped properly you wont have any issues with pinking. Dont think you can just stick in a 2.7 chip and it will be anywhere near perfect.

LOL
hahahah
u'll be fine for the time being with an ant chip for running in... then standalone or maf/unichip is better for throttle response..
i dont see why u cant just keep the afm... and just get a custom chip..

ONly suggested emerald because out of the lot its quitye good value for money and the guy doing the mapping is meant to be excellent.
Ant chip may work but it may pink badly. Quaser's 2.7 pinked alot with the 2.7 chip.
