I'm trying to decide on a headunit to replace the factory one. There is one I like that will look great in the car and not out of place as its black with a red display. It doesn't have all the features I want though.

The one I do want is sliver and can have a red display so the display will tie in with the rest of the dash illumination. I just wondered if people think the silver will look out of place and if anyone has any photos of theirs?

i had a silver one mate, it looks way off imo.

you are better off getting a black one with all the features you want.

nice black units with orange backlights and good quality are very very hard to find.
i would love to find a reasonable one but my budget is no where near £400

try £100 ! 8O

dont care about cd but must have aux input and amp out.

B.E.C.K.E.R!

I got my latest one for £70. About £100 overall once I'd got hold of a new GPS antenna, & the pre-out & aux-in leads. That's for a quality headunit, with satnav, switchable red / amber illumination & it looks like it should be there.

Of course, if flashy lights are what you want, go elsewhere.

I've got about £200, been looking on Car Audio Direct and found the Pioneer for £175. I'll probably just have to live without the remote :(

the remote for mine lives in my glovebox, i have never used it once to be honest. The Pioneer one does look nice but not a solid black front, not sure about the silver bit on the left but am sure it would do the job

Blaupunkt are always very good. Mine is a 'Munchen' and looks fantastic, though they don't make them anymore... :(

I rock Blaunpunkt E1 and Freestylers.

Image

They have red illumintaion and smart design. Sat Nav, iPod control, Pre-Outs and bluetooth phone in.

They go for £2-300 but you can pick older versions up on eBay used for £90.

What more ya need?

After having one with a silver surround fitted, I would say go black.

Luckily, I have an Alpine unit with OEL display and can have the thing light up amber to match all the lighting.

I like that one, just looked on Alpines site at the colour change on the illumination and it looks pink but if you say it glows amber it should be ok.

Pats - what features/facilities do you want/need on it????

You want one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nakamichi-CD-400- ... dZViewItem
(item no 140080633896 - in case the link don't work!!)

Awesome sound quality and they glow amber/red.

Is the rest of your system standard?? Have you, or do you plan to upgrade the speakers? Add any amps, etc??

Whats the reason for changing the standadr unit?? Broken? Want better sound quality? More volume? More features???
What you aiming for??

Well I used to have a Pioneer DEH-P9600MP with DLS PS6A components, Infinity 6512 Coax and 2 x 12" RE12 Subs. I'm losing the subs and the Infinities for now so just basically keeping the DLS's. I want to change the HU because it will look totally out of place in the BMW, plus I just sold it :teehee:.

I wanted a HU with similar spec to the one I had because it was so nice. I'll probably get some cheap coaxials to fill the sound out in the rear until I can afford to do a better setup.

I don't plan on amping the speakers yet, I never amped them in my old car and it sounded fine for my taste but I may do in the future.

For the price the RE's were, they were fantastic. I love the DLS's and they were up for sale but I've changed my mind.

8" DLS Comps Image

This is what I had the RE's in, a big homemade box with each sub having its own compartment set to the correct volume.

Image

People laughed until they heard it, unfortunately I never got round to carpeting it and making a nice install. I replaced the box with a ported box from the net and I wish I hadn't bothered. The subs make no noise whatsoever so I need to either try it with the ports blocked or build a new one.

Would that be the IN-DV7? That does look rather nice. Well out of my price range though.
