my car is on 104,000 and i don't know any history apart from that it has been neglected

if i run carb cleaner through it will this stop it lurching forward when cold ?
or will it just cause more defects

i have ht leads on order as the num nut using the car before took the warm air feed off the manifold cover and the ht leads have been grinding on that

What engine has it got, M10 or M40?

What do you mean by "run carb cleaner through it"

Perhaps if you explained yourself a little better, people might be able to help more easilly.

ok

i believe its an m10 as it is a 4 cylinder carb engine and there is lots of space round it.

the carb cleaner is an aerosol i have with carb cleaner written on it i was going to remove the top from the air filter housing and then spray it directly into the carb on the top of the engine.

sorry if i wasn't clear before

Spraying carb cleaner into the carb when the engine is running is fine, don't go too mad and keep the revs up to stop it stalling when you're doing it.

Put some good old Redex through the carbs and smoke the neigbourhood out!
Done that a few times in the past!
Negligble results though :?

Aye but it's good fun ain't it!! :D

Doubt it'll help very much in this case though... I'd give it a good service & then look at a replacement carb if it doesn't work - I think those are pretty dodgy...

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! dont do that! i did that on mine and it made things sooooo bad. it cleaned the tank and sent all the crap to clog up the filter and then clogged up the jets in the carb.

Si, Rog meant pour it straight into the carb! I used to do this with my escort, it says run engine out of harms way until it clears...I didnt, I went for an entertaining drive!! Smoke everywhere!
