Hi I currently own a Volvo 480 turbo (i know its a shed, brought due to a need to own a Tubocharged car plus it was cheap and chipped) its lasted a year of being ragged, but its rusty and it heading to the scrappy when the MOT's up in a couple of months. So I have been saving for a new car.

I am putting my efforts into searching for a 320 or 325 e30 BMW. They seems to tick all the right boxes.....

Quick
Reliable
RWD
Sound good, with the 6cyl engine
Good value for money

Plus I have always like the stance of the e30 shape.

Any buying advice would be welcomed.

Regards Robin

the 320 and quick don't go :D

Rust is probably the biggest issue with the e30

Hey another local to me

Volvo sounds nice....NOT,but at least your seeing sense in getting an E30!

If your after one thats pretty quick, best to try and stay away from 20lt,although they have that lovely 6 pot noise they are pretty gutless considering and drink petrol.
325 on the other hand, still drin petrol but have good amount of power winkeye
318is is a fair alternative, not quite as powerful as the 325 but still very rewarding and handle well too, they also tend to be less rusty too as they have galvanised shell.

Anyway welcome to the zone mate, maybe see you around sometime :)
PS where in Torbay are you?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

Sounds like the 325 would be a better option, everyone keeps telling me the fuel economy is the same as the 320 anyway. I don't know about the 318is the ones I have seen are a little on the pricey side, oh well see what turns up in a couple of months!

Welcome to the Zone Robin

Out of a 320i or 325i i would say go for the 325i, much more power than the 2ltr, the 318is's are getting a little pricey at the mo'...but there are some bargins out there to be had too...

Good Luck with your search Bud....I holidayed in Brixham a couple of years ago, absolutely loved it..Some beautiful scenary :)

don't disregard a good unmolested 320i as dropping a 2.5 in is a doddle. good 325i's hold their value well. cheap ones are risky as there are a lot of turds about!

you could always get a good cheap 320i with the intention of dropping a 3.5 M30 in too :D

Yeah! Last rwd car I owned was a Sierra XR4i 2.8 v6. Great cars if not a little thirst. Only reason I uses the name still is cause I keep all my details the same for each forum I use, otherwise I would forget (short term memory!)

Now thats a very good idea home made 335i e30. Some guy from Practical Performance Car mag has built a turbocharged one very impressive, 330 bhp at the wheels![/quote]

Not forgetting that's at the wheels!

Over 400 at the fly!

What a hero! Home brew too.

Robin, go 325i!

Robin,loving that XR4i :)

My dad had a couple of them years ago-first one was a Diamond White A reg which he converted to 2.9 4x4,i loved that car,so much better than the 205 diesels etc all my mates dads had winkeye
Second one was a Nimbus Grey B reg,one of the last produced and absolutely mint at the time, never saw him after that so not sure what happened to it!

Great memories of them both though, poor mans cosworth :D
