I love the colour, would have preferred 325i and colour coded bumpers, but can we be that picky?

my first instinct thought it was a bit steep price wise but then i noticed it only has 38000 miles on the clock with full service history 8O thats not even run in and should be minted.nice colour, nice leather as well.your prefered options can always be added at a later date

Just pasted the auction...sounded very genuine...repair is invisible too. Does it look to be a standard lux spec?

Just read the full description and would say you are fully justified to pull out of buying.
Thats not to say you should though, depends on what insurance says .

3 grand for a 318i convertable thats cat D/C'ed no.... ok milage is low, but then again the 318 engine if you were to sell it with such milage is still only going to be worth a tenner!

ntohing wrong with cad D cars, though C cars could be questionable,

only thing your benifitting from is a decent paintwork (which is debatable and still not better then 1000-1500 spent at a decent body shop) so realistically, only real benifit is prob the interior will be in hardly sat in condition!

personally dont think its worth it, id rather pick up a 800£ scrapper rebuild the engine make sure mechanical done, overhal suspension, brakes, rubbers, take it to a body shop and no doubt prob end up spending 4 grand total (inc car) and youll be driving a truly mint machine.
Directed CompX's 12"... 2off. 1000 watts RMS, dual 2ohm VC. 90£ each!!

The seller has declared that the car was damaged, bought off the insurance company and repaired , what is the difficult bit to understand ?
Z31 you read the ad, you have agreed to and committed to buying the car, if in doubt why didn't you do your homework first ?. If a 318i cab is what you want, if the mileage is verifiable, and if the car is as described i don't think it is out of the way, after all Steve Tigger reckons his is worth £6000 ! :)

Alarm bells ring just reading the description.

No offence but if I was willing to punt £3000 on that I would have at least asked the question about it being written off (recorded) or HPI'd the car. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, yes I know.

However if this car is really what you want then why not? If it is as straight as it sounds and was repaired properly then the only impact that the CAT C/D will have is to the resale value unless you can enthuse the prospective purchaser.

Personally if it was straight then I would buy it - doesn't sound too much money for what could be/is already a nice car.

Don't forget that you can get the CAT D removed if required. I wish you the best of luck with it :)

Thanks for your thoughts guys, both pos and neg. you're right, I shouldn't have been so keen, the low miles tempted me, I sort of ignored the damage, trusting it was just a graze. Its true that a dent in the wing would write off any of our cars if we were to claim, so is it that important? i feel a bit pi**ed off with myself, but still unsure if I should go ahead. .

Dude id walk away pending on the cat of damage there has been many cab's with dodge repairs and there never the same.

I paid a grand for my cab and have spent about 2500 on it, The millage being low i can see would make u more interest but even so, Its a 318i lump, After owning it for a month or so u know u woudl want a 6pot.

I'd walk away on the bases not as described in add.

AnyCat D or C vehicles are not wort their full price, if anything they are worth half or less than half of its true value. Why would you but a writtenoff car it must have been in a big accident to be declared written off. And unless you know the true damage of the car and you know the body shop that put it back together i wouldnt touch it.

You dont know if te chasis was damaged or if it has been twisted etc, therefore if you was to have an accident in it again it may crumple.

I have wanted to buy so many cars in the past and when i did a HPI on thembefore i bought them i found out they were cat C or D's.It really dissappoints you because the car looks like a minter, but after seeking proper advice off people i just had to walk away from them.

its up to u in the end its your money and your safety, but IMO i wouls walk. you can getter better than that for cheaper money.
Returned after many years out.

Agreed a price reduction to £2450..so I'm going for it. I really think that a car of this age, would be written off for little more than £1k damage, which is exactly what it costs to respay a side of a new beemer after being keyed..so I dont think I need to worry. Had this occured in 1995, then its a different matter, but in 2004, no. what do you think?

This is exactly the point! It's when a car was written off that matters, not what cat. is was.
Any E30 written off, cat C, in 2004 would be likely to have very minor damage. Just light damage to two or three panels would be enough.
Anything that required just painting would be a cat D.
Most people have no idea how little damage it takes to write off a car!
Saw a 325 Sport on a cat B up for breaking a while ago. Couldn't even see any damage on it!

Looks a nice car for £2450. And, as Brianmooore says, a new door and wing would have taken this to Cat C a couple of years ago!

car looks good but the thing i noticed was the black bumpers and black wing mirrors in the pics and not colour coded ......i stand to be corrected but were these fitted on the change over from pre face lift to face lift ie around f reg other than the write off issue its well worth the money
the ad says fog lights and colour coded mirrors but they are not on the car in the pic or his private plate unless they are old pics
