Best Suited Rims For Convertible
Moderator: martauto
I will be picking up my convertible on Saturday. It has the 15" standard rims. What is everyones opinions on what wheels suit them best? 16's or 17's. Pics would be great.
I always thought the alpina 17's looked best, but a lot of folk on here think these are now old hat (this is only what i have picked up from on here)

16's do me ok

17" alpina reps look good, but like you said they've been done to death & they're erm... not exactly known for their high quality or handling improvements.

I'd say a good set of 16" wheels like original Hartges or Alpinas would be ideal.
17's are great for looks but I would go for 16's imho.

17's give an uncomfortable ride (IMO) and probably coincidence but had 3 blow outs in 6 months with these wheels...went back to refurbed 15 BBS's....much better ride/handling and no blow outs....again only my opinion but if Hartge/Alpina engineers thought 17" rims would have improved things they would have used these and not 16" rims
I've put genuine 16" alpinas on mine, had to buy another car to get 'em and another £160 to have them refurbed. Car drives real well on them and you can lock the centre plate aswell as the wheel studs. Good luck trying to find a set tho!
I like the RS porsche one's the best and will wait for my friend in germany to come across a set.

Alpina 17's are around loads maxfield but its what u do with them to make them different

Considering Selling the Cabby, looks like its gonna go
M3 front struts are hard to find. Rears are a pain as need the whole rear axle. My friend in germany says the Porsche RS are 5 stud and because the ET is high a 4x100 to 5x130 25mm spacer is what's used on the convertible i have shown at the top of the page.m3ben05 wrote:BBS RS every time mate!!
I would assume its cheaper to get m3 5 stud gear and a set of these in 5 stud than try and track down a 4 stud set?
Agree with you the RS is the rim to get, just a little expensive so will have to wait for a set to appear.
I also do not want to change the car too much from standard. Wheels and suspension is it really.

I chose my wheels before I even found the zone. I spent about a month on the internet searching for teh wheels I liked at a price I could afford. I didn't want anything that seemed popular with the boy racer crowd, ie 5 spokes etc etc. These caught my eye and I settled for them. What's interesting now is after about 3 years or so of zone influence, I'd choose differently. Don't get me wrong, I still love my wheels, they get the right sort of attention from all age groups. I think I'd go for some Euro style wheels as suggested here. Funny how poeple's opinions can be influenced by people we associate with!
I considered alpenis reps, the thought of cleaning them put me off. What would you go for if you were not influenced by the zone?
