Was following an E36 Cab the other day and it seemed a bit strange. Other than being on Latvian plates (at a guess), the rear window didnt look right.....

About 30 seconds later all was explained, Ive never seen a 4dr Cab before....

Apart from being the wrong model (e36) it looks shite.....very wrong indeed....You'd probably get e36 owners who think it looks shite too....

Hmm , yeah did some googling, and it turns out they were made by Baur, and were called E36 Baur TC4. Seems to have been a sort of odd experimate to see how functional a 4door convertable would be. Opens up like a normal e30 Baur, a hard top that is removed and stored in the boot and the back folds down.

The one I saw didnt have any kind of hard top, it was a full ragtop. I could see the frame. Maybe there was a few different versions :mad:

Still cant figure out why people would bother though :?

Baur made 310 of these cars, most 316i, but also some 328i and diesel (318td, tds, 325td, tds).

Baur first made the TC4 as 2-door, based on the Coupe. But this car has been destroyed, because BMW was afraid it would claim cabriolet-buyers. So Baur took the 4-door.

Who thinks this was a cheap alternativ for the cabriolet is wrong; it was more expensive than the cabriolet.

Yes they did. But as I already have told, they destroyed this car including all pictures of it.

And no, I don't like E36. Put a Vauxhall-logo on it and it is a Vauxhall.

Funnyly enough ive now acquired some lativan plates for my golf, from the scrapyard. :) they were attached to an e36 coupe, i shit you not. I again told the guy i collected them(as before), didnt tell him about the mint m-tech gearknob in my coat pocket though... :D
