Hi Motorsport, Yeh, I remember some chat a few weeks ago. I can't remember is yours a 2.5 or 2.7?
The 2.7 conversion is all about torque. It is not a revvy engine, 0-2500 rpm seems, only seems, to come comparatively slowy but look at the speedo and then look in the mirror at the cars you left behind! (the MAF conversion has improved rev response a lot) It's pure grunt.
On a normal 2.5 the revs will come more quickly but the torque converter will generally 'soak the power up' so there's not much action at the rear wheels until you reach lock up.
If I am driving for pure performance I shift manually. Even in sport mode, the gears change up too quickly to get the best out of the power curve.
You can hold second to 80 plus and third to 130-135 on the 2.7. I've never had it flat out in 4th. I've also never tried a formal 0-60 time although I know it's six point something.
I used to have a Rover SD1 2.6 auto which basically was the old TR6 engine. It was oversquare and had little torque but revved beautifully. Kick down and it immediately screemed back at you - but you didn't go any faster!
If you going to have a fast auto you need a long throw/undersquare engine which the 325 ain't. Talking purist here, the standard 325 is still a lovely motor - especially the Motorsport edition!

Thanks for that, the 2.5 auto really is around 10 sec on a 0-60, literally no revs for what seems an age. The 2.7 must make a huge difference to the autos performance. On a good note, it's never driven hard away from lights etc, there's no point. Manual shifting, on the move, is still very quick though, until the limiter refuses to give you 2nd and throws you into 3rd with 2500 revs...! Doh.
I assume when you say 4th you mean drive, also does yours have a non selectable overdrive (5th) which automatically kicks in when in Drive(atleast on mine it does) at 60mph?

Andy.

Yep, 'lock-up' kicks in about 58mph on mine. My old auto box used have a mind of its own sometimes which was pain in the proverbial particularly on track! Just had a new box and torque converter fitted (190,000 miles) and it seems to be better behaved now though. Also on the old one, the gearbox limiter used to kick in before my rev limiter did so I would often find my self in 3rd gear limp home mode!

Yeah, when that 'lock up' kicks in and you're doing over 70-80mph there really is no overtake power at all unless you wanna rev the nuts off the car by selecting/kickdown into 3rd. Pity you can't drop it back into 4th.
My manuals had soooo much overtaking power in 4th at that kinda speed.
