Is it possible to buy just the rubber seals for the rear light clusters? Anyone got a part number? Cheers.

Following on from this, how much of a part does the rubber seal that goes all the way around the tailgate area play in keeping water out? I've had quite a bad leak for weeks now and I can't seem to trace it anywhere.

seems possible that the rubber seals play a reasonable part, as i guess the water that goes into the gap between tailgate and c pillar would end up going over the rear light on its escape?

I did mine just over a year ago and it did seem to cure some of my boot leaks.
After you refit the new seals its worth nipping up the securing nuts a week or so later to get a realy good seal.

Chances are it isn't the cluster seals as i've fixed them on with silicone, but still the water comes . I'll replace them anyway just to rule it out.

Where does the water end in yours?

The water ends up in both side pockets, in the spare-tyre well, pretty much everywhere really. It seems to originate around the 2 eyelets for the load securing straps....

It would be interesting to know where it comes from...
I had the situation on my touring and a c2 touring where the right side pocket looked like a swimming pool, but all the rest stayed dry...

Theres a pipe coming down to both side pockets and out of the car from there. (I would have thought it's a drain pipe, but from where? - defo not from the sunroof)

But as I don't know how easily the headlining gets in and out, I just added a 6mm drain to the flooded sidepockets...
Part of your problem might come from these pipes?

I think you will find it is the sunroof drain pipe. Should clip into the vent flap frame in each side pocket (drains out behind the bumper.

I get this as well but its on a coupe. Iv replaced both light seals with BMW items and subsequently siliconed them and i still get water in both compartments; im changing my boot seal next week but i cant see how this would do it because the carpet itself is never wet

Check your hocky stick trims that run down behind the rear 1/4 windows.

I've seen the clips that secure these break which can let water run into the rear boot pockets. These clips are also water seals, and stop water getting in. If they crack or break, the seal fails and in comes the water.

I'm surprised there... I did let water run trough the drainpipes, and it was coming out somewhere near the front doors... Are there others drainholes at the rear of the sunroof? (I've only seen two at the front)

The hockey stick trim (that's what I call it anyway) is made up of items 2,3 & 17. Item 18 are the seals/clips that can break, and item 20 are thin foam gaskets that fit between item 18 and the body.

There's another two drain pipes at the back of the sunroof as well. They run down the inside of the rear pillars and end up in the boot.

It can all be done from outside. If you look behind the trim where it clips to the rear pillars, you can just see the seals/clips. It's not hard to change them, and they are cheap from the dealer.

Not hard at all

First remove the joint cover on the gutter trim (item 14 on the previous OEM link). Then you need to carefully pull the trim away from the body. All you have is 4 or 5 pins on the rear of the trim that clip into the seals. You will probably find the seals will come away with the trim rather than stay in the body. Just go slowly, and pull it out evenly (don't just yank on one end).

I've never had to resort to screwdrivers or any other tool to remove these trims. Gently work at it with your fingers and it should come off okay. You will probably need a screwdriver to remove item 14 though. Just unhook the underside of it (pull it towards you).

Once it's all off, just remove any remaining clips if they stayed on the body, and carefully remove the clips from the back of the trim. Pop the new seals in the body, and the trim simply pushes back in place. Clip item 14 back on, and jobs a goodun.

Take care using silicone to seal against metal, most types have loads of ammonia and promote tin worm.
