Also, went to get the car serviced/MOT'd today and my specialist dude told me that all the wing mirrors are heated, and activate themselves on a temp. sensor automatically - hense new glass was gonna cost Ԛ£40! I though heated mirrors were a switchable extra, obviously not
interesting thing about mirrors.....and arches!

Washed my car yesterday and it has never looked better (many thanks to mark for all the stuff!) but I decided to jack the corners up and have a good grovel around in the arches. The most ammount of soil, salt, crud and crap you can imagine was caked at least an inch thick in there
I couldn't help thinking it was a shit design to have such intricate panel work with lots of recesses and cavities up there to hoard the mud and stuff....

Yeah i just take a power washer under there from time to time to wash the rubbish out the arches, still feels a bit silly tho but would be nessesary on any car.
Heated mirrors are switched on at all times! If youve ever taken them apart theyre just two wires leading into the back of the mirror!

Im sure that the mirror glass has a built in thermostat and turns it self on or off depending on the temp. Did he quote you Ԛ£40 for each side?William wrote:Washed my car yesterday and it has never looked better (many thanks to mark for all the stuff!) but I decided to jack the corners up and have a good grovel around in the arches. Couldn't the temp sensor be somewhere else? (I mean not in the mirrors, hence just the two wires?)
If they switch on only when cold, it could explain all the mysterious battery drain problems during the recent cold weather.

You saying the mirror glass itself is made of some sorta smart material that only completes the circuit if its cold?

Mine seem to be on all the time. All they consist of are two wires from the motor to the back of the mirror glass, theres nothing else like switches or extra wires anywhere.

Wil, the mirror element has a built in 'switch' and that regulates when the mirrors are heated and when not. Mines are not on all the time. And when its hot they are not on at all.
^^ William, i think you can get the glass from ECP/GSF for less than Ԛ£40 a side.
