K&N 57i induction kit

Just my tuppence.
I have a 318i that I've dyno tested to 110bhp, 5 of manufacturers power. imho that means the engine is running just fine considering it's 17years old.
On a motorway run on a cold night I tried
1. std air box, new paper panel filter
2. K&n cone - no internal trumpet
3. nothing - just the afm
I stopped at each two service stations and ran the car each time from 0mph to a fairly good speed, and played about a bit when cruising. There was not a big enough difference in any setup to make mods worth while under the pretense of power gains imho. If you like induction roar then that's a different matter. I stuck the old airbox back on as otherwise it would be a declarable modification for insurance purposes.
Having said that, the only time a tumpet was fitted was when the standard airbox was used this may account for *some* lack of power gain. Wouldn't like to comment on how much, if any.
I think the money would be better spent on a chip or maybe stretch to a cam. Then you get a real power difference.

ok thats cool. I just thought the colder the engine the more responsive it ran. Hence intercoolers on a turbo.
Returned after many years out.
