I think it's just down to the look of the draw on the day to be honest, had highly smoked plates on the touring and never got stopped with them even when the police were going out of their way to follow me (turning aournd, and then stopping at the top of my drive 
).
White plates on the back is bound to draw their attention more though, i'm amazed at the number of cars i keep seeing with the black plates on at the moment!!
