im fine without p/steering. had the car for 4years now so im pretty used to it. now when i drive cars with P/steering i find it much too light.
i dont really know how much theyre worth. mine cost £1700 but was pretty much a heap of shite back then(thought it was ok but after checking it out properly i found it was fukd) ive seen some for £2000 that look sweet but then ive seen some go for more than 5k.
make sure to check for rust on the subframe, rear suspension turrets, sills, fuel tank, under the fusebox.

When you say it was a heap of shite when you got it, what exactly do you mean?
I don't expect this to be my daily driver, in a way, i'd like it to need some stuff doing (stuff that i can manage to do anyway).
The bodywork is supposed to be mint, and it's been stored for the last two years, so obviously all the pipes and hoses may be screwed.
The guy who's selling it has a new BMW and wants to sell this for that reason. He doesn't seem in any real hurry to sell it, so maybe he's not hoping to sell it for too much......well, i can dream anyway!

it had rust on both rear arches, bottom of the doors, sills and the subframe in a few points. The rear top mounts were gone, rear shocks were leaking, gearbox and engine mounts needed replacing, oil pump was leaking, and a few months later i found my cylinder head was cracked. basically it was probably worth 500 quid. All sorted now though

if the body work is "mint" its most probably a good car. how much are you willing to spend?

Sounds nasty.
How much did all of those repairs cost you if you don't mind me asking?
Well, i'd obviously rather spend as little as possible, but i don't want something that is beyond "help".
I don't really have a set budget, i just know i want one!!

i think i was one of teh unlucky ones.
ive probably spent at least 6k on that car. incl 2.7 engine rebuild, alot of bodywork, new shocks, springs and anti-rollbars, ported and polished brand new cyl head. carbon f bonnet, stainless exhaust system incl manifold, new g/box aswell as getting all of the other problems sorted and forgot a few things aswel probably.

Regarding the last seven digits of the VIN, can i ring BMW and give them the registration plate and use that to check the original details of the car?
Also, on car insurance websites, when you type in the registration number of the car to be insured, it tells you the make and model of the car, can you trust this if it tells you it is a Sport?

Here's mine....

Just like "Oakey's" mine was in a bad state, but after 8 months of graffed on it, it's looking good. But rust is a major issue so watch out. I had removed everything possible off the car and did the bodywork and stone chipped the underneth as well. No short cuts, I wanted this car the last another 20 years.

Spec: 1987 325i Sport
Lachs Silver
147,000 on the clock
4 previous owners FSH
un-markerd original cloth sports seats with factory rear head rests.
original un-used spere wheel (Steel 14" with goodyear NCT65 tyre)
full tool kit
Map reading light on mirror
Non-power steering (light weight version)
Hi-compession engine
15" BBS rims with polished edges.
Close ratio gearbox with LSD
Original tourch on the glovebox

Future mods:
Retro fit OBC system
rear shelve with blind

Thats it really.

re-built back to as original as I could get without braking the bank.

Will decide on the cars future after my trip to the Ring in March. I may end up using it as a Nurburgring track car.

Hay how you doing, It's running 205/55/15 porfile all round, colour is Lachs Silver, A rare colour I have been told on the Tech 1's.

I do like your bonnet (how much if you dont mind me asking??
and your steering wheel is pritty rare also...

Keep the Tech 1's alive...

the colour looks slightly green on my screen. Are the rims on yer rims polished?
the bonnet was a single skin carbon which paid £200 second hand, but it had never been used. i was originally going to get it pinned on but i decided to chop up the old bonnet and bond the new one to the old frame (which has been cut down to the mininum). It uses the same hinges and has the same release mechanism also. I didnt think id be able to, but i really can feel the handling difference, a bit less understeer and much lighter steering.
next im gona do the bootlid as its a bit rusty.- this will probably counteract the handling benefits but oh well
i need to get the steering wheel re-leathered it a state.

Yes, the outer rim edge have been polishes and I have painted the centers graphite gray with a touch of green, but the bodywork in the proper Lachs Silver colour, with 3 coats of laque on it.

I like the bonnet idea, but I dont have the heat to rip apart my old bonnet as its go no rust on it.

The car does need a little bit more tidying but its a daily driver now, so will get round to it when the weather gets warmer.

Trust me it really took it out of me when a took on the restoration.

There was time I really felt like setting the thing on fire, but I stuck at it.
It has been a labour of love, and it brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it.

People stop me and "Quote" I haven't seen one of these for years, you dont see many of them anymore. Even from the odd villan and gangster, as these cars where very popular with bank robbers and alike....

These cars still demand alot of respect and are on there way to becomming a true classic. As it was the first 325i in the e30...

And was the car that every 316 driver really wanted.

Will bring it down to the next meet down south when ever that is.

Oakey, the seller is sending me some photos and all the details.
The car's in storage and has been for the last two years, so i think he's taking some new photos.
Possibly go and see it some time this week.

I'm more than happy to put in plenty of hours of work to get it back to it's best if need be. I love tinkering with cars!
I've never driven an E30, can't wait to hear the engine and feel the power of the 325, it'll seem like a race car compared to my E36 318!!

Where did you buy yours from Jay-T and how much was it if you don't mind me asking?

What's the "Hi-compession engine"?
Is that not the standard 325i sport engine?
How's the non-power steering?
What electrics have you got?

The early 325i used a Hi-compression engine, which ment slightly more touque and reved more free'er.

|The later cars Tech 2, had the low compression engine which was an emmission thing. but smother delivery of power.

Tech 1's are just the aggressive bullies of the e30's

Having non-power steering means better driver feel and response and you feel at one with the car. It is sheds weight on the car. (power steering has is advantages when parking, but becomes a little bit un-easy at high speeds.

Having non power steering is great, and it really is not that heavy to live with.

My car has a "Working central locking, Elecrtic windows and electric sunroof. and arial.

ok, i've learnt how to host pics!
First pic:
What's the buttons next to the fog light buttons?
Does that look like it had manual windows? or is that just a hole? or the wrong door cards?

The buttons look like an immobilizer, the hole in the doorcard could possibly be for tweeters that were taken out.

You can see the leccy window buttons next to the gear stick

Let me know your thoughts, there's a few more on the way.
I can see rust on the front two wheel arches.
Does this look like a proper "Sport"?

Thoughts friends?
I don't like the wheels, or the tow bar, but it looks ok other than that and the bit of rust.
That's not a Tech 1 spoiler is it?
am still awaiting info from the seller on the details like mileage, spec, service history etc etc.

Cant tell anything much from those. Looks ok, dented front wing, bit untidy in places.

RUST will be the main issue, so pull out all carpets in the boot, remove lower back seat (just pull it up at the front) and look at innner arches etc. Also bits at bottom of windscreen (scuttle)

If its all solid buy it!

Yeah, i agree, a bit untidy in places, but i'd like to do a bit of work on it to restore it to it's former glory, and also the bad points are a tool for lowering the price.
Do you think it's a "kosher" sport though?

Check under the sideskirts if you can, price is also a major factor here, wouldn't pay more than £500 (generous!)going by those pics (front arches are wank)

Can't tell from the pics as it's got a Tech 2 spoiler. Can't think of Tech 1 spec off the top of my head apart from a 3.64LSD
