My car isn't accelerating very well at the mo and Im kind of hoping its because of the air filter.

The actual filter is the underside of the block at the front yeah? Now how on earth do I get to it?

Sorry this is probably a really dumb question, cheers!

The air filter is the large black plastic housiing near the radiator resevoir. Just release the four metal clips and lift up the housing. You should see a rectangular panel air filter inside.

Cool, cheers! Just didnt wanna break anything ;)

Welp the air filter is fine which is a shame, I was hoping it was causing the dodgy acceleration

Slow acceleration is a feature of the M40 and you cant get rid of it.

Very funny!

Sounds like there might be something else wrong, not sure what.

Try to decribe the exact problem, like when it happens; Is the engine engine hot/cold/warm what revs etc. What is actually happening? Loosing power althogether or just kangarooing?

kangarooing, doesnt matter how long Ive been driving it just seems to do it now, the temperature reading is around the quarter mark. it happens most noticably between 2-3k revs

Could be the clutch, i dont rev it out from lights at all but creeping around in traffic for 7/8 hours certainly didnt do it any favours.

If it is the clutch, is that likely to be expensive? *prepares for worst*

My car used to run like a bag of nails, lurching at those kind of revs, turns out the CO2 levels were vastly out.
Had it adjusted at the cost of a fiver and :woohoo: :woohoo: no more lurching and better acceleration.

It's gonna need to go to a garage, unless you have a bit of mechanical knowledge.

Doesn't sound like clutch? do you mean when you are driving along it hesitates? Or when you pull away it judders? The latter could well be clutch, but from what you said it doesn't sound like it?

Have you checked the distributor cap and rotor arm?

Is it going fine at all other rev ranges?

Just trying to get a better picture of the problem.

Or when you pull away it judders?
This it did when I was in traffic the other day, really badly, but it hasnt done it since.

The problem im seeing now...

sounds like that!

Easy to get the CO2 levels sorted?

(so many questions!)

I know this might sound like stating the obvious, but has it been serviced properly recently? My 316i was running very poor shortly after cold startup before Christmas as it was due a service. Did the service over Christmas including oil, plugs and filters. Old plugs were very carbon fouled. Made a major difference to the running of the car.

all e30's clutch judder when you are in slow moving traffic, they don't like having hot clutches, it'll stop as soon as you drive off normally.
