Update:

Picked my tourer up from BTB yesterday. In the week they've had it they've managed to engineer the twin box 2 x 2" exhaust to fit beautifully. The manifolds however are still quite a way from being finished. We're booked back in for 2 weeks from March 12th. I'll be taking my M52 tourer back and Ian332isport will be dropping his S50 engine sport there. They'll use that period to finish the modifications required to satisfactorily finish the manifolds and join them to the system (for those having a full system).

In the meantime they've altered my standard M52 manifold and joined that to my system so I can get my car up and running (and drive it back to them instead of trailer it!).

Some pics of the exhaust system to tantalise you all with:

Downpipes (M52 ones for now, but the modified S50 ones will end in the same place)

I'm very pleased with it, looks very much like a very well made standard BMW exhaust with just slightly larger tailpipes. If you don't want stealth it will also be available without the centre box (although you may struggle to get through trackday noise regs - will have to check actual noise levels once one is fitted to a running car).

The exhaust is now looking like it will be available at the £950ish mark from the original £1250ish. Who else is interested at that price?

Could everyone on the group buy remind me what engines they have going in too please? (M50/M52/S50b30/S50b32)?

I think it's as follows but if I'm wrong please let me know:

M50
1) Sooty (me to provide manifold) [DEPOSIT PAID]

M52
1) Ste (me to provide manifold) [+ full system] [PAID IN FULL]
2) Jimbob (me to provide manifold) [DEPOSIT PAID]

S50b30
1) Adil [+ possibly full system??] [PAID IN FULL]
2) Jhonno [DEPOSIT PAID]

S50b32
1) Ian332isport (me to provide manifold) [PAID IN FULL]
2) jaistanley [DEPOSIT PAID]
3 ) old_skool_2002 [+ full system] [DEPOSIT PAID]
4) E30_tracker [DEPOSIT PAID]

Also, now we have this delay, if anyone else wants in you still have a chance...

Looking good Ste :D but the delay is a bit of a bummer for me

Car is currently in a workshop on the other side of town & it's got to be out of there in the next three weeks.

I was hoping to have the exhaust sorted by then.

Oh well........never mind. Back to crawling under the car on the drive at home

Couple of quick Q's for you?
I see that your M52 pipes end with no flanges (presumably for the 'X' pipe). Will the manifolds end like this for those not having the full system?
Also, any idea about the cost of the 'X' pipe to go with the manifolds? How much extra would it be?

Cheers M8.

Iain S

PS Car details above, are correct for me.

Car details correct for me too Ste.

Is the price of the exhaust £950 on top of the price of the manifold; making a total of £1350 for exhaust system and manifold mods, or is it £950 all in? I seem to remeber asking you but forget your answer, sorry!...

Sooty: I'd imagine they'll all be like that. The flanges are quite big and run the risk of interfering with the wishbone bush, unless you fit some of those small eye type from the states.

The exhaust does look very nice.

Cheers mate.

£950 is for the exhaust, and the manifold is extra.

Hi Ste, exhaust looks awesome - really loving that ! :D

I have updated your list as i have the S50B30 rather than the B32;

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

M50
1) Sooty (me to provide manifold) [DEPOSIT PAID]

M52
1) Ste (me to provide manifold) [+ full system] [PAID IN FULL]
2) Jimbob (me to provide manifold) [DEPOSIT PAID]

S50b30
1) Adil [+ possibly full system??] [PAID IN FULL]
2) Jhonno [DEPOSIT PAID]
3) E30_tracker [DEPOSIT PAID]

S50b32
1) Ian332isport (me to provide manifold) [PAID IN FULL]
2) jaistanley [DEPOSIT PAID]
3 ) old_skool_2002 [+ full system] [DEPOSIT PAID]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im also strongly considering a full system as they seem such a high quality plus price is real good.

Can i just confirm a few things please :),
* Total price for S50B30 manifold and full system (S50B30 if it makes a difference)
* Delivery date (end of march i guess) just want to work out bugets etc

Cheers in advance.

Hello Mr Nelson,

A couple of questions:

Is the backbox offset to give straight tips?

Would either you or Ian be willing to ship the whole shebang manifolds to tips, to NZ for me?

I'm pretty sure the backbox has straight tips, would need to go to my car to check 100% - are you wondering if it will be central in an M-tech II valance? We'll be trial fitting on Ian's sport with the Mtech II valance so even if it's not central now, the final version will be.

I'd have no problem at all shipping to NZ. Let me have an address and I'll get you a price.

Been messed around so much with my manifolds over the last 2 months now, I just thought sod it.

It does mean I will have 2 sets of modded manifolds though - I'll just have to buy another S50 for the touring winkeye

Will get some weights and dimensions from BTB and get you a price.

Yes it will work with the e36 rack - if you have the same coupling as detailed on my website: http://www.e3024v.com/reference.htm

We are taking the cars up on the 12th of March, and we have a two week slot booked at BTB.

I am up for this, never having liked the shape of the E36 doesn't mean we can't steal its engine - similar to a ford cosworth eh? This was the major thing that was stopping me from doing an S50 conversion into an E30. It would most likely be the S50B30 lump although it makes less power than the 3.2 it is more reliable with only a single VANOS. Also, less conrods tend to get thrown with this engine so I've heard. Also, might be interested in a full exhaust system too.

Have we got a final date for getting orders in or will it be an ongoing thing once they have got some made since they will have the design now? Just weighing some ideas up at the moment so not really in a position to commit to anything yet.

I'm hoping to be able to offer these as an ongoing concern, so if anyone is waiting for some money to come in, or you're not far enough on with your conversion to need an exhaust yet don't worry.

Hopefully we can keep this level of discount too. The whole point of this project was to get proper jigs made up for these manifolds and exhausts so we get a repeatable process and avoid the costs of a bespoke system.

I'll hopefully keep a few 'in stock' myself to avoid build times too.

We need more 24V e30s at the BMW shootout this year at Santa Pod showing the E46 M3s a clean set of tailpipes (as Ian332isport did this year). 8)

Oh yes.. I'm looking forward to showing some E46 M3's the tail end of my standard looking 325i SE!

Also thinking about leaving the bottle tops on there (can you get a set of slicks in 195/60/14?) to really wind them up.

Will the exhausts be available after the date then Ste? There's not a prayer I'll have the money ready in time (I have to move house in the mean time) but I like the idea that if I get sick of trying to weld up my own, I can just buy the BTB one through you...

The only way to make bottle tops of any use :)

Not bad with dry weather but if I try a donut in the damp the front end understeers away from it!

Update

Ian's car is currently with BTB and we are on schedule to have a finished S50 product in 8 days (Friday 23rd) any remaining funds still owed for S50 manifolds and/or exhausts should be paid before this date. Prompt payment will be really appreciated as on the day I go to collect them I'm going to be presented with a bill for all of the exhausts and manifolds. You can easily see we're talking about a fairly large sum of money here, and I don't want to have to find it all to cover late payments!

On that note -many thanks to everyone who has already paid and thanks for your patience. :)

This is the current status for S50 products:

S50b30
1) Adil [+ possibly full system??] [PAID IN FULL]
2) Jhonno [DEPOSIT PAID]
3) E30_tracker (me to provide 1/2 manifold) [+ full system][DEPOSIT PAID]
4) jmc330i (me to provide manifold) [PAID IN FULL]
5) Simon Murphy (simys) [PAID IN FULL]

S50b32
1) Ian332isport (me to provide manifold) [PAID IN FULL]
2) jaistanley [PAID IN FULL]
3 ) old_skool_2002 [+ full system] [DEPOSIT PAID]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The M50/M52 manifolds aren't going quite so well. I'll be really honest - my tourer is finished but won't start, so I haven't been able to get it to BTB yet. I'm still hoping to get it to them before the end of our time slot and BTB can continue the work they started when it was last up there. I'll keep you both informed. Jimbob, I assume you're nowhere near ready for yours yet, but I think the manifold is the last piece of Sooty's jigsaw? Again, apologies for the potential delay, I'll do everything I can to try to rectify this problem.

Obviously I'm not asking for further payment at this stage. If we get back on track I'll ask for final payment then. Like I say I'll keep you both up to date.

M50/M52 product status:

M50
1) Sooty (me to provide manifold) [DEPOSIT PAID]

M52
1) Ste (me to provide manifold) [+ full system] [PAID IN FULL]
2) Jimbob (me to provide manifold) [DEPOSIT PAID]

Thanks again everyone for your patience - for most of you the wait is almost over (and it's time to get the pennies out...). :)

Have you got a rough idea when the M50 manifolds may be ready?

Once yours are all sorted will BTB still carry on selling the manifolds?
