Cars you've given up for an E30?
Moderator: martauto
You might have seen my recent post about Surrey garages. What's the oddest / naffiest / crappiest car you've dumped in favour of an E30?
Mine will be a Citroen C3 Hdi. (Actually a great little car - not sure how long it will take me to miss the 60mpg economy when I eventually do get a 325.....)

Went for my first 320i after my '70 Triumph Vitesse had problems with dodgy Rotoflex joints and leaking carbs...the brakes failed as I was doing the deal with the dealer selling the BMW

I spent the best part of a year restoring a Mk 3 XR3i, went as far as replacing the bulkhead and most of the front end, stripping the whole car including floor back to bare metal and starting the paint process over again but properly this time
Then I went for a drive in an E30
About a week later the Ford was swinging from the Hiab arm

i gave up my last project which was a cosworth converted 1985 rwd toyota celica that had had a full nuts and bolts restoration with a complete main dealer new body.it had taken me 8 years to rebuild and i still have a box file with over £28000 worth of receipts for it.i didnt give it up through choice but because i lost it in the wet resulting in 3 full spins and several impacts with the central reservation
the engine lives on in my current e30 touring project and im a lot more careful with this one

i gave up a 51 plate fiesta for a 1990 316i, then I basically swopped the 316i for a 1990 318is, actually I had spare change from the deal, it was the best thing I have ever done... but like anything, it could be bettered, and considerably too!
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

I swopped a very tidy 160bhp polo g40 for my current 325i but had some spare change so bought roll cage etc.
She was quicker than the bm, but not for long (garrett t34)
Some days i miss it but rwd is king.

I gave up a !978 Series Three Landy for my first 325,then a few years later gave up (well donated to a museum) a 1978 Volvo 264 GLE for a 318,Volvo was returning 8.6 MPG!
Then sold the 318 to the local gypsies who "rung" it with an e36,and bought the Touring.

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...
^Had another one too,but was semi rebuilt onto a minter XR3 shell!
Sunburst Red,identical to the real thing but running a tall block 1.9 CVH on webbers
That thing had some torque and handled mint too with its twin antiroll bar/koni set up!
Ended up breaking it in the end and building a MK3 Escort van using the running gear-nearly died in that
