Fuel Leak......

Hi all, just purchased my first E30 (a 1990 C2.5 convertible) and could do with some advice from the experts!

Having started it up today after it has been sat for 2 weeks I found a steady flow of petrol coming out from under the nearside just in front of the rear wheel.

This stops when the car is switched off.

Is there some sort of fuel pump that could be leaking in this area of the car or is it more likely to be a corroded fuel line?

Thanks for your help, looking forward to actually getting to drive my first E30!

thats where the fuel pump is on my 325 so obviosly there are fuel pipes under there as well. sorry i mean fuel filter sits under there

round about that area is where the copper fuel pipes connect to rubber piping,they're coupled to each with jubilee clips,hope its nothing too major for you to sort,welcome to the zone by the way,theres some very knowledgable people on here as you'll discover in time,(I'm not including myself in that last statement by the way,ha ha)Boss

Fuel pump is in the right hand side of the fuel tank. There is a short rubber hose on top of the tank, then a metal pipe down tom where your leak is. Here there is another short rubber pipe, a aluminium fuel filter and another short rubber hose to the metal fuel line along under the car. Pressure in this pipe is 3 bar?, so plenty of scope for leaks.
There is also a return fuel line and rubber hose in this area.
You'll have to get under and have a look. You may have to remove a plastic cover under the area.

Thanks for your help guys. I will get it into a garage with the comfort of knowing that it probably isn't going to be too serious.

The joys of a 15 year old car I suppose! I'm sure a blast on a sunny day with the roof down will make this sort of thing seem a small price to pay.
