I got these new lights in black hoping as they're not the dreaded Lexus style :puke: that they'd:

1) Make the car look a little more up to date.
2) Make it a little more recognisable.
3) Make it look better at night (I didn't like the squareness of the standard lights).

....all without making it look boy racer.

Now they definitely make it more recognisable and they're great at night, been impossible to catch it on film but I think they look the business :D

And as for making it look a little more up to date I think they've worked as well.

But as for without making it look boy racer, I'm not so sure

I was thinking maybe keep these on in the winter when I spend most of my time in the car at night, and changing them for all-reds in the summer when I'll spend most of the time in daylight.

I'm sure they'll look better when I get rid of the 316i badge, my Tec II spoiler gets painted and goes on and the rear bumper and lower half of the valance are painted a la rare's 318is; maybe if the results of the poll are about 50/50 I'll put up another pic or two once these little jobs are done.

So...what do people think?

No obcenities please, just constructive critisism!

I really don't think those lights suit the E30, if I was you I'd get some all reds like you mentioned - that would look great.
Save the E30s!

That was my first impression on the first pic.

They are definatley modern looking lights, IMO a bit too modern for the classic lines of the E30.

Could you tint them like the all reds, best of both worlds then, funky light pattern with understated look of all reds. It would look pretty smooth too as there isn't any ribbed sections between the segments.

Does make a change from the usual lexus style lights

I think that too sometimes :?
rare wrote:Lord no!!! Looks like someone nicked a set of traffic lights and stuck them to your rear!
....says rare, who knows all about rear light wrongness

Everybody who's seen them in the flesh agrees that they look excellent at night and I do get recognised a lot because of them, but during the day they just don't look as good as standard or all-red lights.

I guess I'm just wondering if it's worth the lights looking a little cr*p in the day for the advantage of looking great at night

Thanks for the comments so far people, seems like the poll results are a bit of an overwhelming "bin them" at the moment though.
Should've added a "not sure" option. D'oh! :(

I don't like them either. Sorry dude.

Should have gone for these instead... a little less 'Lexus' but still in keeping with the 'squareness' of the E30.

Each to their own though...

I considered these but decided against them.

I saw the ones you'd photoshopped onto that cab (your old cab?) and I definitely prefer the ones I've got.

If I took them apart and painted the black bit red, does anyone reckon they'd look better? Kind of all red but still look great at night and still different.

Giles, if it doesn't take you too long would you be able to do a Photoshop of the black being red instead?
If it takes too long d/w about it but if it's a quick job it'd be really appreciated :D

get the money back dude before its too late and u get stuck with em

i dont like em, cos they look abit "plasticy" if u get what i mean.. the black insert has a vac-formed feel to em, and the outer lenses donԚ´t really do it for me either

get the crystals, or diy a set of standards to all-reds as either would suit the colour of youԚ´re car

hope u can get em refunded

Thanks for your opinions everyone....a pretty convincing "tacky" it seems!

Although considering not a lot of people think they're really boy racery, I think I'll take them off for the summer in favour of my home-made all-reds, and somehow find a way of making them look good in the day for the winter when it's always dark when I'm driving, because they do look very very good in the dark, it's the only reason I've kept them on....the pictures just don't do them justice!

Anyway thanks for all the replies (especially those who said "looks a nice car" as well ) and especially to Andy_magic and Sjoerd for doing the 'shopping :D
