As Neil said - remove the barrel and retrive the broken part of the key - take the two parts of the key to a lock smith and they make you up another one in 5 mins.
Neil.
I'll tell you how to start your car with out the key if you want and how to get around the steering lock with out breaking any thing but, tbh - the new cut key is the best option lol.

so key is snapped, but you have both bits? surely superglue should hold it together long enough for the key cutter to get the shape?
or try the old espionage technique of making a print in plastecine?

I asked at BMW the other day and they told me that E30 keys are no longer available. There is an eBay seller in the US who does torch ones shipped for around $20. Just take it to a Timpson or Mr. Minit - who will also be able to cut you one using one of their own blanks, to tide you over.

Oh well that is a stroke of luck! They are obviously better connected than the dealer in Wakey. Like I said though, if you later decide you want a torch one, the guy on ebay would seem to be your best bet.
Good luck with it!

BMW also told me this, after id got everything together, got down there, they photocopied my docs, I signed something then two days later they phoned me and said they dont cut E30 keys anymore. You can still buy blank keys though, £2 ish for a standard blank, I got a torch effort aswell from the US for about £11 posted. Local locksmith cut the both of them for £5, proper locksmith though, not a shoe polisher/trophy engraver

fuzzy i only paid 7 quid for my key from bmw, i had to file it down thou, trouble is ive just put my car in for an mot and the mechanic decided to deadlock the drivers side door and guess what the key wouldnt open it, so ive just been over there, door panel off, lock cylinder out put the mechanism back together, just so the door opens and shuts for the retest, i now need a complete new lockset as the key is way to thin really,
i was using the remote control to lock the car
the key from bmw was not a blank either

I don't doubt that they still do the lock repair kits, locks, etc. but according to their parts computer, the keys themselves are no longer available.Bob_S wrote:i bought a new matched ig barrel from BMW onloy a few months back for mine?
