it depends on postcode! i dont see what alot of you guys whine about when talking about insurance! i live in northern ireland, my friend insured a group 2 1.1 saxo, for how much? £1800!!!!!! he is 19 years old and that was the cheapest quote he could get! most of the young guys in northern ireland driving bmw's just dont have insurance, simple as that. Over here if you are 17, you usually wont even get a quote for a pugeot 306 d-turbo! you guys over there on the mainland dont know your living, plus who needs a bmw as a first car anyway??? hes going to be tearing it up, you start learning to drive when u get on the roads yourself, i think you would be very foolish to just let you son have a bmw as a first car, give him somthing to arse about in and to give him some experience

Try www.admiral.com
when i was 19yrs old with 3 points and 2yrs no claims , had a chipped and pullyed polo g40 for £900 fully comp, worth a try.(live in middle of no where tho.)
Saying that, even tho it was quicker than the 325i i replaced it with they wouldn't insure me(rwd , bmw, must be 25 etc)
you are just gunna have to spend half a day searching
Insurance companies like to take as much as they can!
Good luck

wouldnt be seen dead driving any car like that around, seanboy wrote:I found out postcodes make a difference. if you have family living in a nice part of the country you will notice a big difference. eg when I was 17 quoted £3,000 pounds mk3 fiesta in tottenham. beckenham postcode same policy 1200. big difference? when I was 19 in beckenham kent postcode with my girlfriend 23 as policy holder and few no claims bonus on a 325 e30 £480 fully comp 320 e30 £440. got the 325i that was with direct line.
Or try the policy in your sons name with you as named driver.they seem to think different for some reason. or just suffer it on a 1.2 clio or similar to get that 1 years no claims.
p.s thisi s for me who kevin (my dad) is talking about, plus when insurance allows it i can drop a 325 lump in

But those are typical boy racer cars dude, insurance companies always hike the premiums because they know young lads will be ragging the crap out of these types of car most evenings with all their mates.dimebag_from_hell wrote:it depends on postcode! i dont see what alot of you guys whine about when talking about insurance! i live in northern ireland, my friend insured a group 2 1.1 saxo, for how much? £1800!!!!!! he is 19 years old and that was the cheapest quote he could get! most of the young guys in northern ireland driving bmw's just dont have insurance, simple as that. If you get a car that's not "the norm" for youngsters you'll find the insurance premiums aren't too bad. I know of someone who had a 3 litre (I think) Jag and his insurance wasn't too different from his mates "hot" hatches.

When I first got insured i went on my mums policy as a named driver, and i payed both ours and her insurance (worked out to be about £500) but that was a few years ago... I know that its a bit naughty being effectivly the main driver, when your only suppose to be the 'occasional driver' but they who can prove it...
Have you tried joining a bmw owners club? this knocked loads of my insurance, and also, what bout your lad taking his pass plus? its about 70 quid or something, and my mate halfed his insurance in the first year... Good look!!!
Oh, seen as though everone else is braggin about there prices, i've got a 2.5 cab, and fc mines 950, which for a 21 year old on his own policy with no noclaims rocks!! thats with Lancaster.

a group 2 saxo or a bmw! its obvious what is more dangerous to drive, no 17 year old over here would get a quote for a car like that unless it is second driver or somthing dodgy! mate your talking about dropping a 325 lump in, you dont even have your own car yet! the fact is your 17 which is a risk full stop, so no insurance company wants you driving a bmw!

one obvious point that many people don't think of is to hammer down the best quote. get your best quote and go back to the closest (higher) priced companies with it. they'll usually meet or beat it. repeat until you're blue in the face
for the money savings involved, buy a few car mags (max power, bmw mags, classic car mags) and ring EVERYONE!!! spend a day over it and you will often get the price down to about 60%/70% of what you'd pay otherwise.
i knew someone who worked for hastings direct (cheap btw) and after 2 weeks there she was authorised to give up to 50% discounts if it got them the business. they don't want to as they're on comission and it costs the person on the phone money. they will try and get the price up at an inflated rate the following years though so have none of it and shop around again! i did get a years cheap insurance out of that though

Hey. Ive got a Black 2dr 318i. Im 18, and have one years no claims. My policy was £1000 fully comp with RAC. Personally I found all of the specialist performance and young drivers to be very expensive, and Confused.com is a definite no no. Hope this helps
