Im fairly sure the gearboxes are different the Mtec 1 has crank shaft sensors doesnt it? From the fly wheel. Mtec 2 doesnt have that. Diff should be a 3.64. 3.91 is what the Mtec 2 have. I think thats right.jamesh1977 wrote:dont they come standard with a lsd and a sport box? if need be ive got a box that came out a tec2 sport is there a diffrence ?

No chrome bumper sports have 3.91 diffs too.
I meant all the gearbox ratios in both boxes are the same. They fit on either car also.
Crank sensors are at the very front of the engine down by the crank
i think around 2000 of each sport variant came to the UK and there are not alot left of either now. most tech 2's are in ireland it seems!

Thanks im sure i was right. All the mtec 1s ive had have always had much much more top end than mtec 2s. Im also fair sure there is some sort of pick up sensor on the bell housing, it takes its reading off the fly wheel.Theo325 wrote:No chrome bumper sports have 3.91 diffs too.
Says who? Do you rekon Oz's car came with that diff from new? The two sports ive come across have both had 3.64's with a readable tag as well.
Tec 2's had a 3.91 diff and the crank senser on the lower o/s/f of the engine
Tec 1's had a 3.64 diff and a crank senser in the n/s/f of the bell housing
Though as mentioned by Theo, these cars are pushing 20 yrs old now and have probably had changes in the past of some discription.
Neil.

i f**kin said so! i'm probably wrong.
get this then, i've got a mate with a proper genuine Tech 2 sport (Diamond black too) with...........an early 325i engine, ecu, sport box and 3.64 LSD. It's probably one of the first UK tech 2's or the first one to of come into the country and BMW must of thrown it together with all sorts of bits it would appear. it's an 88 F reg i've never seen another 88 F plater, theres a few 89 F's like my old one but no 88 F's.
It was ordered RHD and collected from Germany when new so it's not on the UK dealer data base. Wierd car, proper but not if u get me. It forsale soon and has recaro highbacks the proper sports seats!
