I've been ringing around to get a quote for a 316/318 for my son.
With me as policyholder or him, dosn't make much difference, seems to be around 3.5k !!!!
My "no claims" is on my work car, so can't use that.
Any ideas, good companies etc
It's got to be legit and above board.

i paid 1800 for a 1.4 polo when i first started...
try halifax,,, they were the cheapest i found when i first started out
alturnativly move your no claims over to your car?? whens your van got to be renewed? cos your van still wont be that expensive witout the no claims cos of your expeirence anyway. though will make a heck of a difference from the other car.

Insurance is odd...! I got insured on my W-plate 200sx with 300+ bhp and torque for only £1100, I was 20 when I first took the policy out, which was the same price for my 327i the previous year!!
I know that sounds a lot to you oldies
but for a youngster that's a good deal.

A friend of mine at work, 29yrs old, is paying about that for his N reg 325TDS. Mine's £180 protected no claims for a 318i Auto Touring at 38.

www.elephant.co.uk seem to be pretty decent, make sure he has respect for the e30 though! cant go ragging it round like a fwd
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!
I'm 22 - last year it cost me £1K to insure (fully comp) my 316i with Norwich Union. I'd only been driving for 6 months but the car and policy were both in my name. I'd done Pass Plus which was worth a bit off the premium and quite useful anyway. This year Barclays were the cheapest by miles - £570 FC. They had one of those "beat everyone or match it and give you cash" offers on when I got a quote, might be worth looking at...

lancaster insurance, wont get classic till he is 21 but they do do good quoates, even though i have a traders policy i always insure my older cars like the jags and bmws with them, the jag is only 330 fc at 24 with 6 years no claims in liverpool and the 320i i just bought is 210fc.
there website has been playing up at the mo and been giving silly prices like 16.000.00 to put my discovery on but when i phoned them it was only 285 quid. seems to come up even cheaper going through confused.com aswell for some reason and just buy online. oh and lancaster are all english customer services, never had a prob, let us know how you got on, i remember paying 3k for insurance when i was 17, nightmare

try having a chat to adrian flux.due to how the policy prices are worked out, it's often cheaper with a faster or more modified car. me (at 24 with no no-claims due to a recent accident and 3 points) on a standard 325i touring was about £800. that dropped to £550 once i told them it was lowerd and had a scorpion exhaust.
the price has since dropped due to age, location, ncb etc but the amusing bit is the 3.5 conversion only adds 10% to the modified price so is still going to be less than a standard 325i!!!!
my little bro had a fairly had-at 205 XS and then a few quick modified polos with them straight after passing his test and was paying less than 1k. that is all 100% legit too with all mods declared etc. why not when it saves money?!!!

alot of it will be becuase its RWD and quite a heavy old car, I expect a 1.6 escort would be 1/2 that, its going to be around 1k whatever he gets tho, at that age he might pay £900 for a 1 litre but a 1.3 wont be loads more, I had a AX GT as my first car was 1.6k on insurance and thats quicker then most e30's, he should get something like a 205, 106, saxo if you cant get the 316 down

i have a 325i tourer and cant get insured on it in 18 tho... they askin for an arm and a leg (3.5k more than the car is worth) ! im in birmingham.... it depends on he crime level of the area aswell!

Because of the BMW badge the insurance groupings are higher than a lot of other makes for stuff with similar engine sizes. My E36 316i daily hack is group 11, a 1.6 ford focus is group 6. The first car i insured in my name was a 1.3 j reg escort and that cost nearly £900 TPFT over 6 years ago.

Im 18, and learnt on my e30 318i at 17. I was at first being quoted usually between 3000-5000, which is crazy.
You can change your no claims policy from your work car to your son's e30. They are only policies of NCB, so are interchangeable between cars.
Then insure your work car which only you drive in your name, and if your 'oldish' is shouldnt be too much even with no NCB. You can then build up a second policy cheaply

dont no if its any use to you but a company called liverpool victoria gave me a Quote of £2030 when i was 17 on a 1.2 punto with 17" and big ice install which was very cheep as most companies said i couldn't have alloys till i was 21, but the best bit is that although they dont give you any money off for pass plus or anything at the end of a Accident free year they give you 2 years NCB instead of 1 and that can be swoped to who ever!! im 19 now but 18 when i took out the policy and that was £1470 FC on a 318IS

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity
M42 Supercharged 285bhp + M3 6speed box
I have always been with adrian flux there quality, they was the only people to insure my rs turbo when i was 18
and my last sport, I can never beat there quote.
Sometimes you can have a haggle with them aswell they all seem pretty genuine and not your usual call centre
people may be worth a try, make sure you call them as the web site never seems much good.
Hope this helps !!!!

'most' companies are the wrong ones to talk to!
the people at adrian flux actually know about cars and will often have a chat about your car while card payments are going through etc.

I found out postcodes make a difference. if you have family living in a nice part of the country you will notice a big difference. eg when I was 17 quoted £3,000 pounds mk3 fiesta in tottenham. beckenham postcode same policy 1200. big difference? when I was 19 in beckenham kent postcode with my girlfriend 23 as policy holder and few no claims bonus on a 325 e30 £480 fully comp 320 e30 £440. got the 325i that was with direct line.
Or try the policy in your sons name with you as named driver.they seem to think different for some reason. or just suffer it on a 1.2 clio or similar to get that 1 years no claims.
