hi

Have 1988 318i baur cabriolet. When you turn the key the gauge reads full even if it is half empty. After tapping on the clear screen for a while it decides to go to the correct reading? Any ideas on how I get get rid off this so it reads the correct amount all the time. :x

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but on my '88 316 the petrol gauge needle goes up and down like a bloody yo yo while I'm driving.

I just assumed it was because the SI board isn't working, and (I'm led to believe) the power to the instruments goes through this first, so if it's a bit dodgy the dials go wonky. (Although I've also heard the speedo is the first to show signs of cracking up.)

Although it could also be down to the new petrol tank I had put in about 18 months ago...then again that's another problem. :(

Whilst we are on the subject of dodgy petrol gauges can anyone tell me the best way to go about finding out and fixing my low petrol warning light. It just doesnt work so no warning at all when im running low.

Hi y'all.

I had a similar problem with my petrol gauge. When the fuel level got low, it would flick around all over the place.

I've also heard about this being the SI board batteries going. This could be true. But there could be bad connection possibilities also. First step would be the SI batteries.

I replaced the whole cluster and the problem has gone now.
