Rubber engine mounts for engine swaps/etc

I'm using standard E30 M20 rubber engine mounts at the moment but i need an engine mount with slightly less hieght so that my engine will sit lower in the bay.

I think i only need the engine to drop about 5mm to give me some engine/bonnet clearance for my new TB mod.

Any ideas ?

Andy, I think you're gonna need titanium mounts to strap that big boy down, either that or a bonnet bulge

Is there no other BMW application that'll do it mate? E28, E34?

Thats what i'm hoping for but all the BMW engine mounts i know of are thicker

andy, i did use carlton 3000 rubber mounts on one conversion i did many moons ago as they are fairly heavy duty and quite short, but i'm not sure if they are as small as e30 m20

How much room have you got under the sump.

Not a lot, so i can't drop it too much, i only need about 5mm for the TB

What about a thin version of those nasty spacers that go between the front subframe and the chassis. You could trail fit with some washers to get the correct setting before getting something more permenant sorted.
just a thought.

my (larger auto) tps rubs the underside of the bonnet while the sump is now just about touching the steering rack!

is it not possible to loosen the mounts an have a wiggle? with the play in the e30.de mouning holes i can move the engine about quite a bit

or drill / slottify (TM) the engine mount holes?

Was wondering when you were going to fit that manifold to your car, almost got to the stage of asking if you wanted to sell it, would work nice with the turbo conversion i'm starting.

looking good mate and cheer for the head, already got the flange sorted, gas axe used to cut the 10mm steel plate then lots of grinding and drilling.

getting some mandrel bent tubes soon to start making the rest of it.

another idea andy, allthough a little more involved,
would be to remove the part on the crossmember that the rubber mounting bolts to, and lower it enough to fit whatever rubber mounting you wanted to use then re-weld it back onto the crossmember.
or maybe make different engine mounts.
both involve a fair amount of work, but at least there are ways of getting around your problem.

i don't care how well they're made, that is a pikey bodge for someone too tight to mod their sump.

ready tapped for MS and boost gauge lines and used standard 316i cable

I'm not keen on the X-frame spacers TBH but i'm not totally ruling it out, just got to try some other ideas first.

other that tipping the fronts of the wishbones down, screwing up the geometry a treat!

oh, dropping the rack, increasing bump steer...

reducing ground clearance...

i can think of a few more good reasons too! there has to be a thinner mount to use? ford use similar style mounts on older RWD stuff...
