so i know the following is required:

manifold
turbo
intercooler
oil feeds for turbo
charge pipes
ecu to control fuelling/ignition
exhaust work

so what else is required.....

turbos are sooooo cool.. especially in old skool motors..

Karan,

your compression is too high for a turbo install.

Stick with M5 conversion and leave this one alone!

uprated or adjustable fuel presure reg
uprated fuel pump
high flow injectors
oh, and a clean driving licence to cope with the extra points :)

these are quite useful too, (blantant turbo pic alert)

top turbo is a T3 hybrid and brand new, it mates with the cast log manifold you can see lower down, the mainfold is a rare gen BBR cast unit dating back to 1991, they marketed a kit using a T2.5 and this gave 255 bhp @ 6 psi.

gives us all something to aim for

the second is another hybrid unit, again new but has been run up to temp while testing, that one is a GT37 roller bearing hybrid from a GTS-T skline, the ceramic internals have been replaced with Garrett gen parts, the tubular manifold you can also see in the pix is what caused my wiring meltdown last year, its not quite finished yet but has been a real labour intensive PITA to get right this time round, basically it sat to high and too close to the engine, running temp was 1100 degrees !!

edit to include intercooler pix

ahh yes mate, once the MS arrives its spanners away  Its paid for , just takes 60 days to be processed in the US ( bimmerjim does ready built kits for those that can't solder well, like me )

I rekon 3 hours to fit the turbo stuff again as the block prep and body chopping is all done, exhaust needs fabricating still, Mig welder will be working overtime again then

the MS I rekon will take another day to get wired and programmed with a base map, then its testing time again, start with low boost and using the wideband 02 hooked up to the datalogging side of the MS software we should start to reap what we've sown.

yes dude, bought a blolt on kit S/H, bolted it all on, relocated all I could away from the heat of the turbo, sheilded everything else that could not be relocated.

ran it up for an hour to check for leaks and nip everything up @ working temp and ventured out for a drive.... 714 injectors and 4bar fuel pressure, vac off, no exhaust apart from a downpipe and running a puny 5 psi on the 'gate.

hit the bypass for the first boosted run..... wohooooooooooo !

then 3 minutes later engine conked out and refused to restart, opened the bonnet and to my horror I discover the heat from the dwonpipe had melted through a 6mm kevlar/ceramic lined heat sheild and melted the main engine harness where it goes through the bulkhead, Doh !! oh and 3 HT leads looked like molten slugs smeared accross the rocker box

anyways, thats history now, manifold bears no resemblance to the original state I bought it in, its lower and leaner now:wink:

It s all taken far too long but it'll be worth it in the end
the MS was a late addition to the plan after I realised a rising rate FPR was a wrong turn for what I wanted to achieve

I set a small budget for this conversion, anything is possible with a blank cheque, I chose the DIY route, under 1.5K fitted and running is the max spend, I'm just under the bar for each setup but get a sneaky feeling I'll soon need more funds for more boost
