the main drive/motor which is the weakest part is about 350 pounds from bmw a person on ebay.de does a repair kit but it often goes for 150 pounds and i am told eurocarparts do the drive for 280 pounds so in all i would try and knock them down or you will have a lot of money to lay out

it depends whats actually wrong with the hood mech?

the motor could have sheared off?
or the microswictehs could be fooked?

or it could simply be the bowden cable snapping...

whats wrong with u ppl? wasiting ur money like dat? the power hood on my beemer packed in last year, so i was like (gulp) what da f..k do i do now? so the first thing i did was to take it down to the local bmw main dealer just to get it diagnosed, man bmw are so usless, the truth is they dont wanna waste there time one old e30's an other old bm's. there more concernd about giving mr chief executive's bmw X5 its 5000 mile service or valeting the new age yuppie's bmw mini, basically cars for the masses commercial piss. so all they said was that u'll have to replace all the motors blah blah, and hit me with a Ԛ£600+ quote, so i was like thanks for ur usless help, (thieving B....tards) then i decidec to take it to my regular auto electrican, this guy is da man when it comes to auto electrics, i always go to him whenever i have any electrical faults with my car. so i says to him "ian my man, my hoods not workin and bmw want me to take out a mortgage to get it fixed from them, so sort it out" scratches his old baldy head and say "leave it with me, ill need to check all da cuircuits and switches" ect ect. next day he calls me up and says "its fixed", i was like "f..k dat was quick, what was wrong with it?" and he told me that a resistor or somthin like dat had burnt out on the electric motor cuircuit board, but he had to go through all the possiblites to find the fault, eliminating them one by one. and the cost of the job? about Ԛ£40. just his labour time and a few pennies for the resistor. see bmw dealers are shit when it comes to things like this, they just get u to replace eveything and hope they find the fault, and if they dont, then they get u to replace more parts, its just hit or miss for them, usless w...nkers.

thats all well n fine m8 but its most likely to be a burnt out or tired motor

Hi

I am going thru this experience at the moment so here it is

It is most likely to be a hood drive motor that is defunct as the casing breaks ..a new motor is about Ԛ£300 + vat ..i tried over the whole country to get a secondhand one but rocking horse ordure,,there is a repair kit which looks the biz and this guys site on ebay shows what happens(mine looked exactly the same. the kit looks a though it might be ok

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... RK:MEWA:IT

the bowden cables are Ԛ£!6 each and they stretch over the years and sometimes break but possibly need adjusting..The biggest job is getting the new motor and the flap drive into sync.. there is a thread on here which describes what you have to do ..complicated or what!!!! I am letting someonelse have a go.

best of luck

agghhhhhhhhhh, i cant f..kin belive it, i spoke too soon.

I looked out of the window this morning and saw the sun shinning, so decided to pull my baby out today and get her topless as its been couped up all winter in the garage, so i pull up to the side of the road and press the button to bring the hood down, and that it now the f..kin thing wont go bak up? its just stuck in roof down position, it just stopped workin. got so pissed of drove it back to da garage and parked it back up, and jumped back into to nissan micra an pissed off.
And trust this to happen right after ive already read this post and put a reply on it, sods law or what?
