Before I take off my trim to have a look I thought I'd ask people first.

I've just read the article on e30 ICE and it says the speakers in there are 5.25". I've got some 6.5" speakers. Is there any way they will fit into the existing holes in the front or back on my 2dr?

I just want to improve the current system until I can afford and have time to do door builds.

Thanks.

pats

the short answer is that they'll fit. the (slightly) longer answer is that it'll take nearly as much work to put them in the factory holes as it'll take to make some door builds as it's effectively making a small build for the standard hole.

a reasonable result can be achieved by putting your 6 1/2s up to the underside or on top of the rear shelf with some mdf ring work. it would do for a few weeks, or for ever if sound quality/looks are not too important.

Thanks, I think I'll sell my existing ones and start from scratch as I've decided to not mess around with the interior too much.

Off topic but are those 16" Alpinas on your car? They look gorgeous, hard to get hold of?

yep - genuine alpinas 7 inch front and 8 inch rears. they are gorgeous too - a really good design for the e30. they're not particularly rare yet but they're certainly not common. a bit of patience will see a set come up either on here or ebay. the 8 inch rears are rarer and, hence, fetch more money. worth the wait and expense though. they are still available through alpina (sytners, nottingham in the uk) but cost loads! a good set will come with 4 caps and locks all openable with the same key. in all a set consists of 4 wheels, 4 caps, 4 locks, 4 badges, 4 lock covers, 4 cap rubbers, 4 lock rubbers and a key or 2. a lock cap hook is a desirable extra!

if you're not too far away you're more than welcome to examine and hear my 6 1/2s in both front and rear at some point. west sussex may be only 10 minutes up the road if you're in the west of the county. 6 1/2s don't have to spoil an interior.

Thanks, I'll have to keep an eye out or start saving!

I'm near Brighton so it would be a fair old trek, thanks though.
