No it's not possible. A 318iS will never do 165 mph, never in a billion years. With standard gearing it will run out of revs (about 8000 rpm) and with tall gearing it just hasn't enough power. Realistic top speed of an iS is 125-130 ish, no more.Kos wrote:whys that john ??jonb wrote:sorry kos. 165mph, in that thing. no way.
you do the maths, e28 overdrive gear box, 3.25 diff lots of power and torque it is possible, i maight add the car was still pulling at that speed
150mph on the autobahn!

Andyboy, you got it wrong , Kos reckons he went 165 mph in that sad samco'd up white turbo turd not his 'scuttlemeister'. I must say it was probably feasible but incredibly foolish ,bearing in mind Crouch and i fitted a clutch to it and the front flitches were attached by P40 and tie wraps !

Wow that is irrelevant, whilst we are being irrelevant. Pete was is the ideal ratio of p40 and hardner? Or perhaps that is relevantSAVAGETOURER wrote:HI ALL ANY ONE CAN HELP .. WHER BOLTS ARE ON A TOURER TO GET BACK SEATS OUT ??

love the video Shaz, I miss the Autobahns from living in Germany 2 years ago. Much easier to go fast there than the roads near me in Bucks
Hire cars are my favourite cars to go flying down the Autobahn in
It's amazing how fast they go when you don't worry if it breaks

That's because you wasted your money on a pansy mk4 when you should clearly have gone for a mk3 instead. No wonder you can't afford trousers.Andyboy wrote:CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I'VE JUST SPENT FIVE YEARS RESTORING A TRIUMPH SPITFIRE AND MY TROUSERS DON'T FIT ANYMORE.

WRONG!!!
It's actually a 1963 Spitfire 4, the rare early model that even predates the Mark 1 (she packs the 1147 mill and not a 1200 you see).
I wouldn't piss on a Mark 4 - I only do the pure early 'low bumper' Spitties.
As for driving hire cars on the Autobahn, the E39 520i's will wind up to an indicated 240 clicks on the looooong down hill section near Kassell. Howver the last hire car I had over there - a new shape Megane (don' aarrsk) was treated very carefully. French scrap has a dislike for abuse and I wasn't been seen with that ugly c*nt on a hard shoulder.

Fair play. Didn't realise you could get 'arc trouser', but I can't see what else it could be; I guess you've invented a new medical condition...

Arc trouser to go with 'Triumph Twitch' (what happens when the driveshaft splines go ungreased and the back end jacks up mid corner.
I'm kidding btw - I wouldn't have anything bearing a Triumph badge on the property. Nasty British junk.

I had a 1500
Definately rusty britsh scrap, although the chassis was remarkably solid, due to the 'through-flow' oil lubrication system.
Made a nice noise though, & I was only 18...

There's nothing particularly clever about it though - I think I've done it 2 or 3 times in 21 years. A car like a 540i example is horribly overgeared - you drive one though with gearing 15% lower (replace the 2.9 diff with a 3.6) and the difference in acceleration is staggering - bollocks to M5's!). Something that cruises nicely at 90 yet really GOES when you put the hammer down is better. Don't forget that 150 mph=prison if you get caught. Lincoln open jail in fact.)
Still want a 540i though... my problem being that I wouldn't want to sell the cab now because I'd be throwing money away, & I wouldn't want to sell it in the summer because I somehow doubt I'll get a convertible 540i! I also don't know much about em - nikasil issues, what year to go for, chances of finding a manual, etc, etc, etc... any advice?? There's a few around on LPG too...
