today is the perfect day to take my touring on the track at knockhill, its dry and sunny and its hot hatch day.although im going to suss it out first to see how many muppets are there with £50 bangers from the scrapyard.everytime we go it seems to be full of fannys in scrap cars who dont care who they take out along the way, they shouldnt be allowed :x but i want to see how many of the hot hatches can beat my 'hot estate' winkeye is anyone from here at knockhill today?

it may do on the roads but on he track its quite a different matter you need to get it on the track and see what it can do hows about a trip to the ring

The best driver wins ..... the car is pretty much irrelevant.

only if both cars are similar ,a 197 bhp type r isnt going to beat a 292 bhp cossie even if jenson button was behind the wheel.today was a waste of time anyway as i was there 2 and a half hours and there was no track action due to some muppet blowing his engine and driving right around the track covering it with oil

Dude im sure my dad will be keeping up with cars 100hp more than his

power is not the most important thing on a track and jenson button

you'd be struggling to keep up with him

so you recon a car with 50% more power wont be faster?only if the person driving has no feet or hands and is completely useless.your assuming your dad is a great driver and im s***e.but were unlikely to ever find out winkeye

yes because power is not the key on the track

braking
handling
racing lines

power is not that important

im sure some of the track people agree

im not sayin my dads great and im not saying your shite just that you thingk power is the key

Jenson button isn't as fast as you may think he would be. I raced with him in karts back in the day,and to be brutally honest he is smooth as double cream, but not fast at the same time,as they say-money is everything in motorsport!

lets face it none of us are going to be mega famous race drivers.

please dont insult each other !

racing is fun and there are many different combinations to getting round a track fast.

however the best example of this i can think of was on topgear when jeremy clarkson was on the tail of a lamborgini muchilargo(sp) round the track in a mitsu evo and the lambo could not loose him. both are 4x4 and the lambo has 700bhp i think.

power is only good if you can apply it to the ground and cornering is all about the laws of physics and grip.

I regularly embarras cars with 2 and 3 times the power of mine on track. Maybe it's the fact I have alot of laps under my belt, maybe I have a little talent (although I doubt it very much), maybe the car is well set up, I dont think so really.

The simple fact of the matter is the car within reason is irrelevant. If a carrera GT came to the ring and the owner hadn't driven there before, he would be getting a 205gti suprise at around T13 winkeye

Big bhp allows you to munch straights, but if I exit the previous bend 10mph quicker than you, you need to accelerate 10mph to be doing the same speed as me. You need another 10mph to be catching me, by that time we are at the next corner and i'm on my way again. It isn't all about power.

My 325 project car won't have power upgrades, it's much more fulfilling doing your stuff with standard power........Oh and I won't have to worry about rain all the time like you seem to

and if i was to exit the corner 10mph faster than you then my extra power would pull me away even further.like max you are assuming you are a better driver, you probably are ,but my point is that obviously extra power is going to make the difference if both drivers are of a similar standard ,of which me and my mate in the type r are, and i dont deny someone in a lesser powered car would probably win over someone who cant drive in a big power car but anyway my car isnt about tracks really ,its built for acceleration to do the 1/4 mile drag winkeye

in which case that 197bhp type R could well upset you :D

I have learnt one thing about driving on tracks, never under estimate another guys car. That includes yours winkeye

fuzzyat near 300bhp you are gona be quick just not in the wet, and as for the power debate 300bhp
is a good amount of power and will smoke a 1.9 gti in the dry but will strugle in the wet for sure. i do a fair few tdays along with a few mate's who have very different cars i can leave the 205 in the dry but damp and he's on me big time.

Just because one car has 300bhp and the other has 130bhp it doesn't mean one is quicker than the other round a circuit you know? That is in the wet or dry........ The important bit is whether the driver is experienced on the track in question and how well set up the car is.

People get hung up on trying to squeeze every bhp possible out of their cars but the important bit is making sure the thing will corner, will stop and is capable of taking the power.

My 1.9gti used to be the brunt of jokes over on scoobynet, then we went to Bedford a couple of years ago. It isn't laughed about anymore

I have only driven mine for a month or so or ropey suspension and dead bushes. The next time I will get to drive it will be round Bedford at the end of Feb. It should be 80% prepared by then.

I still have serious doubts, even with the money i'm spending on it, if I will be able to hussle it round faster than the 205. It will be a different experience though and one i'm looking forward to.
