as you can probably tell am into my collection of jags and have a rare and i mean rare XJ40 twin turbo, to which to body is what needs the attention, now as i have mentioned i am looking into a bigger lump as the 325i has a blown bottome end but an immaculate shell.
has anyone even heard of such a conversion?
at the mo my N/A is running just on the right side of 300bhp and know people who can do alot with turbo's and they wreckon that the twin turbo could probably push the 600bhp with a healthy bank balance but if anything will an e30 take the weight of the jag lump on the front end? and or the actual size of the gear box without cuttin half the car away.
oh by the way its a 4.0 strait 6.

Think you may be into pioneering territory here, but go for it anyway. Only one way to find out for sure!

should be able to fit in in, the engine is not that much bigger although the GM gearbox is a big ole beast
only way to find out, is pull the thing out and hang it in the bay dude

You can use a Getrag manual box as fitted to the 3.6 XJS and XJ40 but there are long and short tail versions - I think these use a short tail like an E30 M3 box. The AJ6 engine is an all alloy unit and like the BMW lump it sits over at an angle but you've got one huge problem - on the AJ6 engines the sump bulge and oil pick up are at the back of the engine and to fit an E30 it need to at the front.
Forget it! Decent XJ6's are so cheap now you may as well reshell yours and build a turbo'd M30 for a 3 Series.

this problem was overcome on my conversion by fabricating a new sump and oil pick up from alloy to fit around the front crossmember, the dipstick also had to be re located to the front.Andyboy wrote: but you've got one huge problem - on the AJ6 engines the sump bulge and oil pick up are at the back of the engine and to fit an E30 it need to at the front.

Whooa! that jag looks pimptastic!
I've never heard of a twin turbo'd jag!
Tell us more about it!
Someone has to go all out and be the first to do a conversion. Personally I couldn't have done mine without the advice I got from people on here who have done it or are doing it.

there's few places else you'll get a 4-litre, aluminium 24v straight six. certainly not any bmw engine.
get it in.

takken in to what has been said about the jag lump fitting i think am gonna give it a shot, prob lots of fabricating which aint a prob for me,
as for tha jag itself pimptastic, as far as i am aware only 200 where made and this one is 145No. they where never massive sellers but jag have done a few things rare like say bet you didnt know they produced an xjs estate??? looks wank would even bother searching for a pic out of curiosity lol.
the one in the sig pic is a 91 XJ40 ex cheshire police car, bored from 4.0-4.2, 6.0 injectors. re mapped ecu, lightend flywheel, filter, strait through stainless inc manifold and silencers, and a paramount full race cam and the biggest thing about it is its a manual box and will drift the circumference of china, take off in 5th from a standing start although i dont do it regulary of course lol and an LSD running 245 wide rims and twr shocks and springs.
as for top end i dont know as it will easy see the clock of 160 on standard tyres and rims and spedo being police is calibrated and gave a GXSR750 a good top end battle.

your talking about the lynx estate conversion, not from the factory. its looks the bollocks, better than that thing in your sig.
your really wasting your time trying to put that lump into an e30.
any pictures of the turbo xj40?
i love the xjs lister LM....500bhp, i had a race with a green one in an e34 m5 a couple of years back. near the town centre in bristol. it pissed all over the m5, flames spiting out the 4 exhausts.
