150mph on the autobahn!
Moderator: martauto
hmm - nice one. I've never been much past 140, but my M535i will cruise nicely at just that. I did it for about 10 miles up a.. "stretch of private 3 lane road that runs north from london
" on the way back from Ace Cafe a month or so back with three of us in the car... effortless. gotta love the big old german muscle!
The aim of the game is to get her past 155 thou with some hot cams maybe? as she a) has no limiter b) has a long ratio diff and c) finally and most importantly, that will make it faster than my mates e39 540i which is limited to 155

150 what though. Nobody mentioned mph - and 150 kp/h is VERY legal!! If you know what I mean.fuzzy wrote:no you didnt, because that would be illegal.i think you meant you did 150+ on a private stretch of roadAndyboy wrote:I was 21 when I had my first quick car, a V12 XJ-S manual. There's nothing particularly clever about it though - I think I've done it 2 or 3 times in 21 years. A car like a 540i example is horribly overgeared - you drive one though with gearing 15% lower (replace the 2.9 diff with a 3.6) and the difference in acceleration is staggering - bollocks to M5's!). Something that cruises nicely at 90 yet really GOES when you put the hammer down is better. Don't forget that 150 mph=prison if you get caught. Lincoln open jail in fact.

Nutters the bl**dy lot of you. I get paranoid going over 100! (& yes, I mean kph of courseAndyboy wrote: 150 what though. Nobody mentioned mph - and 150 kp/h is VERY legal!! If you know what I mean.![]()

Still want a 540i though... my problem being that I wouldn't want to sell the cab now because I'd be throwing money away, & I wouldn't want to sell it in the summer because I somehow doubt I'll get a convertible 540i! I also don't know much about em - nikasil issues, what year to go for, chances of finding a manual, etc, etc, etc... any advice?? There's a few around on LPG too...
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...
I used to live in the land of Beer and Bratwurst, While I was there I owned a 911 Cab
. Just had to try to top it out on the AutoBahn. With the roof up I saw 250 kmh on the speedo (155 mph) with the roof down only managed 235 kmh (144 mph) and it was damm noisy. The funny thing I found when I was doing this was how solid the Porsche sat on the road and how it still didn't stop someone in a big Merc catching me from behind. I slowed down a bit when the road started to bend ( at that speed it felt more like a corner!! ) However this Merc went past me llike I was standing still and I checked the speedo and I was still doing 200 !

I know what you mean. When i had my 325 engine in my sport read an indicated 145 before. And i believed it.But then i fitted a set of m3 clocks and it did a more realistic 135.bryang wrote:nice...

nice vid, the only time yopu can pull that off in the uk is on a quiet motorway late at night
on the way to donny a couple of years back, i pushed 165mph (indicated on the sat nav) playing with a mates de restriceted 535d !! we shut down a cossie at 155 then just carried on till we had to slow down and let the rest of the convoy catch up. then a red e36gt wanted a bit of fun so i proceeded to shut them down as well!
missing the m3 so much these days, but soon it'll be back

March,
The M3 comment at the end is unrelated to the aforementioned 'playing' on the fahrbahn!

I was really chuffed that my old 2.5 Mondeo would sit at 140, until I borrowed a mates Tomtom in September for a trip to France, Belgium and the ring, and discovered that an indicated 140 was really only 128. Still, more than once I saw a figure north of 150, admittedly on a downhill stretch though, so the car probably did see a real 140 at some point.
Last year while travelling along a long, remote section of foreign motorway I had it sat at an indicated 125 - 130 for around 120 miles. The car coped really well, but the economy dropped to around 22mpg, from 30 at an average 80.
I doubt my E30 would go much over 115, and lord knows how little that really is, but it is a good old bus nonetheless!

150 on the speedo - what did the GPS on the windscreen say? 135?
GUG would pull off the speedo against the mechanism stop showing 160+ speedo speed. It over-read by miles and probably did 145 max.
Do you not all max any new car you get just to see "what'll she do mister"?
I hit over 170 indicated on the M6 toll in BEGJO's M5 when I went to collect it from Yorkshire. I had to give up there though as the rain was so hard, the wipers didn't really work and the worn steering box meant I had to use 2 lanes to keep it straight.

I doubt my trusty old 318i has much top end go left in her, the bike is a different matter though!! Had my 750 showing and indicated 175mph which was scary as fook, eyeballs start vibrating at that sort of speed making it rather difficult to see, then traded the 750cc in for 1000cc which I had up to a GPS indicated 182mph. That was actually quite good fun riding 3 abreast, obviously none of this activity occurred on the A24 from Dorking down to Brighton. All this childish behaviour is now very much in the past obviously. Until next time.

Don't need to go to Germany to avoid speed limits - just stay out of the villages on the Isle of Man - NO SPEED LIMIT
Plus you get the smooth open twisty stuff to test you and your cars setup
