335 and A/C

Is there any way of fitting a/c to a 335 conversion? I mean any possible way baring custom stuff.

Is it possible to fit the a/c rad as close to the grill as poss, then finding a thin pusher fan to go in between? Or

fitting the 2 rads together with a bit of space btween, and mounting the biggest elec pusher fan poss?

why doesnt it fit in its normal position? or are you trying to use the 5 series AC rad?

It will only fit in its present position if an electric fan isn't used to cool the M30! Once one of those is fitted i don't think there will be room in front for the a/c rad and fan.

As long as you are using the full width e28 type radiator, a/c is no problem. Standard e30 condensor and electric fan can be used.If using a radiator located IN the front panel,then you'll be sweating !

But there's VERY little room behind the rad ie infront of the engine. How could I mount the whole lot?

From the engine, you got rad, slam panel, would you mount an elec fan here then the a/c stuff?

I was thinking about slanting it downwards and get it a feed from the front oil cooler vent

You would have engine, rad, A/C condenser, electric fan and then the front panel. This is how it's done as standard on an E30 with A/C.

but how much room will there be. Its limited as it is atm. My front valance is one of the later ones I think. It has the 2 cut outs.. 1 fro the oil cooler, the other im not sure what for. BUT it would be perfect for what I want to do.

bASICALLY THE A/C WILL BE SLANTED FORWARD getting it's air feed from the 2 slots leaving the main grill to feed the rad/fan.

Does that work?

I'm not sure you understand how it all goes together. The A/C condenser basically sits directly on the front of the main radiator, and the fan is directly on the front of that. You don't need to angle anything.

If you have a front panel with a cut out above the oil cooler cut out, then you already have an A/C front panel. The extra slot is to allow more air to help cool the condenser.

Ian i think you are missing the point mate
A standard e30 with air-con has a viscous fan and and elctric fan just for the a/c. If col fits and M30 he will need an elctric fan in front of the rad to replace the viscous!

If i fit the elc fan, theres almost buggar all room to fit the condensor. I'll have to have a play round with this idea.

My car only has the E30 A/C electric fan (no viscous), and it works fine. Although the fan does switch on to low speed when you use the A/C, it also operates totally independently via the dual temp switch in the side of the radiator.

You don't need the viscous if you have A/C fitted. My car has sat in stationary traffic for long periods on very hot days, and the temperature is very stable.

so its just got the elec fan thats connected to the condensor? Hmm.. But I thin ki'm still going to need anotehr fan for australian temps

Colin,your turd has A/C . Whatever engine you use (for your sake please leave it stock !) just utilise the original condensor and electric fan. Provided the fan is in good order and BOTH speeds work it is plenty man enough to keep your turd cool.
To prove this point ,why not remove your viscous and use your car normally. As long as the fan is working CORRECTLY i guarantee your car won't overheat. There are now lots of e30 M3s in australia, the electric fan in front of the condensor is the only fan they use, i haven't heard of any problems,have you ?

I wasn't planing on installing the aircon in my conversion, I thought having a sunroof would suffice. That was in winter, now its summer I'm reconsidering.

Its all well and good when you've got cool air breezing past from outside, it's another when the air is hot and dry. The 335 wont be the daily driver so its not a priority but if it can be done, I'd give it a shot.

I think I might try for the A/C elec fan only. I can add it later if needed. Ian, do you have pics of the setup and or the wiring?
